I know this has been talked about before, and the general consensus is to go with Fiero or Miata seats. I was wondering, though, if I wanted to put in brand new seats, which would I go with? I see all sorts of racing seats, etc on ebay, and I wanted to with something like that as oppposed to ripping out some old fiero or miata seats. Has anyone added these sorts of seats to their beast?

Re: brand spankin new seats
There were those 'suburban seats' available for a while cheap but they are gone I think. Can't help, but they have to be pretty narrow. I'm putting neon seats in mine, but I don't have the oem frames so they are getting put in on custom frames.

I'd look at Smart car seat. They are narrow, comfy and fold forward flat to double as a table Only down is they look pretty modern.

Re: brand spankin new seats
Suburban Seating still offers a wide variety of new economy seats, look under Universal seats. They currently offer a high back vinyl one without arm rests that looks like it will fit a van. Call and ask for exact dimensions, they are very helpful. The same seat also comes with right or left arm rests...

I used their 31" wide cloth version they offered a few years ago, they were surplus from a Ford made Euro van of some sort, they had about 300 pairs and sold them all. These new vinyl ones even have ribbing that sorta looks old fordish!

Does anybody have these installed as front seats in an E100 truck?
If so, how do they compare in size to the stock ones?

Re: brand spankin new seats
I called and they are 20" wide, 19" long and 18" tall. I measured my van and they should fit so I ordered two.

Thanks!
I'm away from my truck for a bit so I will have to wait to measure the originals before I order....

Re: brand spankin new seats
If you have the originals it would be best to have them rebuilt and reupholstered, At the very least keep them until you can get them done.

Any reason other than accurate restoration?

Re: brand spankin new seats
You'll have better seats that bolt right in. And there is some value in having the originals, even if you don't use them, keep them around. I totally understand saving money though and getting it done. My original seats and seat frames/mounts were long gone when I got my van, I got some good seats from the junkyard for $20 and made them work, but I wish I had the original seats. jmo

I have the original seats but it was cheaper to buy these than to have the originals reupholstered. I'll hang on to the original seats and pass them on when I sell the van or I mite redo them one day.
