I am looking to lower the front my 61 E van about 2". Does any one have any experience with Nostalgia Sids 2" drop axle. I need new king pins any way and was planning to replace the leaf springs with new ones also. Any advice would be apreciated.

Re: 2" drop axle anyone
I haven't had experience with the straight axle drop, but I have experience with the Ibeam setup on the older Ford trucks which is very similar. I would make sure you are getting a forged beam, which his appear to be and they appear to be of good quality. Replacing the king pins is also a smart idea, and you may as well change out all the supporting components that the king pins touch. Replacing out the leaf springs may raise up your van some, so you may not get a full 2" drop. Should look great when you are done!

Thanks, wasn't sure how much new springs would raise it but I'm looking for that old school rake. My springs look a bit rusty and the pads are comming out from between the leaves. Dont know if I should replace the springs or just clean them up and replace the bushings.

Re: 2" drop axle anyone
Cleaning the springs up, replacing the stock bushings with polyurethane types and putting in some shorter gas shocks would help your right alot, plus you would not be gaining potential height, like you would with new springs. The rake look is suweeet! Are you thinking of putting some nice wide tires out back too?

Re: 2" drop axle anyone
Yes I would like to get wide tires for the rear sometime but I have to do little things one at a time, buget is a little tight right now. My vision is sitting a little low with a slight rake and the tires just sticking out past the flares like shes grabbing the road, I think that would be cool. Thanks for the advice guys.

Re: 2" drop axle anyone
Many times I have monkeyed with used springs and ALWAYS seems one side sags different than another,, with that being said,, I give up on trying that anymore and would simply have the springs made to what I want them to sit at. Regards to dropped axles,,, I believe you are talking about them bending our axles to get the advertised 2" drop?? If so, it will pull the wheels slightly inwards in order to get the bend in the axle. Bending the axle will move the steering arm ball joint upwards in relationship to the pit-man arm ball joint and so you need to be careful of creating bump steer when doing it. ANOTHER perfect reason to purchase the book by Fred Puhn,,,,,,, "HOW TO MAKE YOUR CAR HANDLE",,,,,,,, all of this explained in detail and how to make a bump steer gauge out of plywood,,, LOL... HP BOOKS---46,,,,,,,,,,,Been yapping about it for ages,,,,,

Re: 2" drop axle anyone
Hello, sorry I haven't responded lately been very busy with other things. No I haven't tried drop axles but I did replace the kingpins and replaced all leaf springs , drag link, tyrods . It did raise it up a bit. Need to rebuild steering box at some point but it's not to bad. Planning trip to Colorado in June. 65 GTO engine blew up on me, something else to fix. It never ends! Thanks Guys.
