My van has the 7.25" axle but it is tired and was thinking I wanted a traction lock... which I can't see anything out there for the 7.25. I'm on the hunt for a 9" or would consider an 8.8 if I can find the right length. I measure the axle I have at 61.625" but am unsure if that is the stock econoline length as notes that came with the van say that a rear axle from a 1962 car was put in it. Can anyone confirm the length. I have searched the internet and can find all sorts of info on lengths but nothing for the econoline go figure.

Maybe this diagrtam will help. I understand some years of the Explorer 8.8 rear was a fair match, about 1.5 inches narrower and it can be had with disc brakes.

I think this is the answer
From what I can gather the stock rim size is 14x 5.5 with a 0 offset. From the diagram above that would mean that the drum to drum size at the rear is 60.5 as the drums would sit at the centre of the wheel. I would say the drums are about 3/16 in thickness each so the axle length should be about 60 1/8". Thats the closest answer as I can find as all of the info out there excludes econolines. Thanks for all of your posts.
