If it wasn't smashed up a bit that fuel door area on the truck next to it makes a good chunk to have if someone ever wants to do the smooth look.

There are plenty of parts down there, on that one street there are 3 yards full,,,,,all are what we call Pik a Parts,,,,,,Ecology has a Domestic vehicle yard and a Foreign vehicle yard and this one here just down the block from those two, is called Pick Your Part,,,,,Chula Vista, California, USA,,,,,,which is right by the Pacific Ocean and a few miles north of the Mexican Border at Tijuana,,,,,

Re: GMC Jacke's van
So, before I met Don... I thought I had a good van. Then began the learnin'... now I have cut a doghouse out a van in the junk yard, cut my own terrible doghouse out of my van! Now I see those motor mounts... oh myyyy. Don had me removing cross member, I actually couldn't get out from under the van I was wedged under, finally found a way to roll from under...Lol. Blood is on the outside of the van from either or both Don and myself. But, it was done and done with safety first!
I never thought a month ago I would be covered in debris and wipe my face with a dirty shop rag, have more cuts than paper and understand how to remove a cross member and do my motor mounts!!
Have a Happy Fathers Day!

I think it's Great that you're willing to just jump right in and Get-Er-Done! Don's the best person to have for an advisor and we're all very grateful for the help and advise he dishes out on a daily basis here!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Well, I am getting great knowledge along with my bumps and cuts. I really do appreciate the
brain power being used to help me get my GMC ready. I plan on getting these mounts done then get the new Doghouse in... but as Don says ONE STEP AT A TIME! LOL I used to be in production in the Aerospace industry... so I do tend to go on and on, until everything is competed. Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Those clean up real nice. Is there something it can be coated with once it's clean to keep the brass looking spiffy?

I saw some high temp clear? Maybe that would be something that would protect the finish. Maybe I am trying to make it too pretty.vanny wrote:Those clean up real nice. Is there something it can be coated with once it's clean to keep the brass looking spiffy?

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Is that counterweight from the factory or is it something the PO added? I know the Econolines have them but was unaware that GM also used them...

Re: GMC Jacke's van
Ha! I guess that's pretty clever, just cutting a second hole to install a new sending unit, since no one makes a direct replacement for ours.
Don has said, some vans came with those big counterweights, but most did not. I don't know what determined which ones got them. Icy climates?!

Re: GMC Jacke's van
the 1st vans had them,,,,,,probably to keep the rear brakes from locking up,,,,,,it also serves as the rear perch for the gas tank,,,,,,,
