cracked frame on Both sides Empty cracked frame on Both sides

AUGH.... I put in air shocks and it drove great, but heard a clunk and looked.... right rear shock broke and the frame is cracked, buckled on both sides where the shocks mount......left and right side frame.

Do I cut the frame and weld in new box rails?

Wow, that's crazy. Sorry for your troubles. Sounds like a good plan. The springs must have not been carrying much if any of the load.

I would also inspect the entire frame for further rust damage before replacing the rear rails. Whacking it with a hammer will jar loose flaking rust and hopefully expose any more problem areas. Poke suspect areas with a large screwdriver or chisel, probing for holes.

    Best of luck.

Oops! Just realized you're in California, probably don't have rust issues. That was a Michigan answer to a West Coast problem. Sorry...

I would only =stop drill the crack area--- weld  it & grind-- then weld /  gussett (plate) over that area for strength.

Need to figure out why it broke. I agree the springs weren't carrying the load and instead the load was transmitted thru the shocks causing unusual stress on the frame. Need to fix that first then repair the damage as mentioned.
