I have a 66, A 100 that seems to need some major engine work. It is smoking white smoke after the van starts running for a few minutes. But even when driving, drives good, electrical works, new brake master cylinder, etc.. the only real problem is the smoke. Really embarrassing.

There are many mechanics in town and around, but non show interest in working on the Dodge. This because its a dodge and there are no parts, easily accesible to replace the ones that could be needing replaced.

Any suggestions besides attempting to find and buy the similar van with similar motor and hoping the van I purchase (probably from out of state) doesn't have the same problems.

Suggestions?? Replace with (different size, etc.. ) motor?

Thanks for your help or thoughts on this matter.

go up to profile and put down a better location,,,,,are you in Los Angeles?
is the smoke from oil or coolant? whats the compression on the engine,,,,,,,,,what percent leakdown does each cylinder have,,,,,,,,does the cooling system pass the pressure test,,,,,,,V8 or 6,,,,,,,I surely can pull that engine and drop it off at an engine rebuilder for you,,,,,,,IF,,,,,,,you are in my area,,,,,,,you might just need valve stem seals,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the quick response. As you can tell, I have been on this site for a while but am now getting a bit more serious (now I have more time and money) about getting all the bugs out of my van.  My first and only classic vehicle.

I am in North San  Diego County, there isn't any issues with overheating, leaking, etc.. with the engine. Starts fine, runs fine, etc..

I have just talked to the mechanic that did do some work on the van this summer and he "attempted to fix a somewhat warped manifold"?

% leakdown, pressure test on cooling system, etc.. don't know that. But again, the whole engine runs well and pretty quiet for a 50 year old vehicle.  I have no problem starting the vehicle, taking it out on the street, starting, stopping, etc.. except for the embarrasement of the white smoke.

I wish I could be more specific but with all this knowledge here on this site, just looking for a little direction so as to when I do attempt to  get the smoke taken care of, I have somewhat of an idea of what I could be expecting.

Thank for your assistance and for this awesomes site.

Everyone in SD sent me to Rory Fontana in Simi Valley. I had front end stuff, which I had done at Bee-Line in SD (they can't help with the engine). All the guys in SD say Rory is worth it. If you upgrade your AAA, you can even get it towed up and take the train back. I know .. it's far, but he's the best according to everyone.
