So Cal Mechanic Needed Empty So Cal Mechanic Needed

Post by shoptruck Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:13 pm

    Hi Guys,
Im new to the forum and recently picked up a 63 Econoline Pickup. I recently moved to to LA and left my shop up in Nor Cal. I am looking for a mechanic that is familiar with the early econolines that can give it a good once over. I need to correct some timing, carb adjustment, and cooling issues that I have. At the moment it is running a little hot, +/-210 degrees, and it worries me if i get stuck in traffic, which is inevitable. It has a 302 with a 2bbl, C4, a 4 row radiator, with a 16" electric fan and a mechanical fan with no shroud, and the belly pan. Any recommendations on a local shop is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    CP

Hey Shoptruck, welcome to the site. First off get rid of the 302 and go back to the six cylinder. A late 60's early 70's 200 cubic inch will give you better gas mileage and comparable power. And it will fit right in as the Econolines never came with V-8 engines. Overheating problem solved. If you want performance, talk to member vanishingbreed. He set up his six cylinder with parts from Clifford Performance. Still gets good gas mileage and I think pushes 250 HP but you will have to ask him. He has been messing with these trucks and vans for quite some time.
