gregb wrote:Hi donivan - ok just got springs back - i managed to get the 3 steel sleeves at 1 1/8 and the 1 at 1 5/8 on the passenger side front.
as discussed i also sourced some of the poly urethane ones but as i said do you think i should replace the riubber bushings with polyurethane or order the rubber ones online ?
    - i manged to get a photo of my ride posted but i cant seem to post photos to a discussion yet.
man i need help !! or a beer.

I don't get why you can't, or wouldn't, replace all bushings to be the same size?

for whatever crazy reason some of the 65's the leaf spring on the passenger front the steel sleeve is 1 5/8 not the 1 1/8th.
so i would have to actually change the spring. And you cant just change one spring you need to do both and there was nothing wrong with the springs itself.
i was prettty confused by it ?

Are the spring eye diameters different, or is it just the inner sleeve?

I have a '65 and I'm going to be doing what you've already done. My van's at the shop getting the rear end built, so I can't go under it to see for myself...

The hole in the spring is actually 1/2" bigger,,,,,,uses a bigger bushing,,,,,,,see both of them in my picture,,,,,,HOWEVER,,,,,I just got a box of 4.2126r  and I AM LIKING THEM,,,,,,,they are about 1/8" too wide, but that lets you custom fit them for a tight fit in your spring and frame,,,,So my OFFICIAL answer now is that these replace the 1 1/8" metal cartridges or my 2056 polyurethane bushings,,,,,,,the sleeves are for our 1st Gen 9/16" bolts,,,,,

thats what i got and mine were a little wider also
i cut mine down the the 2.5 inches.
i wish i didnt find the steel bushing as i would hav ejust done all the bushings in polyurethane.
i even found the 1 5/8 inch in poly.
learning on the fly !! yee haw eat your grandma !!

I guess that spooge drippage on the spring is what helped you get it slick enough to force it into the spring eye...?

Hi Donivan - happy holidays to ya !!
    Hope all is well .
Well apparently I didn't get lucky with the hinge .
The one I have is flat on the glove box door side so it sticks out 3/4 of an inch at bottom ??
Maybe came from corvair or something, I bought that other one on eBay but it was shat !!
I did get the outside ring chromed and put back together but now I need a proper hinge
Since your the governor do you or anyone you know have an extra for sale ?
I should have left the homemade wood one on there !lol
I guess I am a gluten for punishment
    Anyway have a great holiday
    Cheers

now if I had a Corvair hinge on my Chevy van glovebox door,,,,,,I would take the hinge off,,,,knock the pin out,,,,,,screw the door half to a piece of wood, then either with vice grips or put a 1/4 thinner piece of wood under it and bend a step into it,,,,,maybe smash it down with a chisel,,,thats called a dogleg,,,,,,it dont have to be perfect,,,,just lower so it moves the door closer to the dash when you close it,,,,,,,
