Re: New a100 shorty owner.
Here's my newly painted and coated tank. Its some patented process called tank renu. there's only a handful of places in the country that do it and one happened to be an hour from me. I'm really happy with how it turned out. There were definitely brush strokes to be seen on it but I don't care. It's git a lifetime guarantee not to leak. they sand blasted inside and out. $325.
I'm shining a light in the tank so that you can see the inside coating.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
carb rebuild. got the kit the day i called form autozone. they didn't have it at the store but got it from the warehouse. I called in AM and the had it at 2 pm. I'm a newbie so I took tons of pix to do the rebuild making sure I knew where everything hooked up both from the engine to the carb and all of the carb parts itself. Even drawing some diagrams haha.
I used berryman's dip. I only soaked each part for 20 minutes due to time constraints, but wow it looks brand new now.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
My old timer neighbor owned my local napa store for 40 years. He told me to stop by his place he had something for me. my missing gas cap. Tighter than OJ's glove!
i asked him if it was vented. he said sort of but not exactly. he turned it over and showed me the valve. He said it remains closed until the pressure in the tank builds up enuff to press the valve in and then in his words it "poops" the pressure out then closes back up.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
So here's a shot of the master cylinder. Not much room in there. The master is beneath the drivers seat. You have to take the splash guard off of the bottom of the van to access it. Its ez as it was only 8 bolts I think. You can see the holes cut factory in the bracket that holds the radiator on. the holes are cut to allow the brake lines to pass thru from the master c. There s tons of open space on the other side of the bracket so If the dual master that I upgrade to is much bigger then the O single master, I will need to cut the bracket a bit more.
This is a shot looking at the MC from the middle of the underside of the van. The right side of the pic is toward the front of the van the left side of pic is toward the rear
Here u can see the other side of the thin metal bracket. If the new dual doesn't fit this is the bracket that I must cut bigger.
here is a faraway pic. You can see the access hole that is just under the drivers seat in the floor. It is used for checking brake fluid level. Too bad it;s not big enuff to pull the MC that way. I think that would be a great mod.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
now for some questions. This looks like a mod. What is this thing?
Its hooked on the front axle. One end is bolted to one bar (I - Beam) and the other end of it is bolted to the other parallel running bar (sway bar?)
My brother, a mechanic out west just told me its a steering stabilizer.

You can also see my brake lines all rusted and brittle in these pix too. Going with nickle copper lines.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
Nice progress Slik! Tackling the important jobs first and I really like your drawing with the screws attached where they go back. That's what I need to do before taking things apart because I usually end up with spare parts and wonder where the heck they came from!!!
I'll definitely have to try some of that purple power stuff. Looks like it did a Fantastic cleaning job underneath! Keep up the great work and thanks for the tips. The van probably hasn't had this kind of attention in a long time. Thanks for saving another one! Keep on Vannin!!!

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
that thing on the front axle is called a steering stabilizer,,,,,,,I put one on my van,,,,,,,30 years ago,,,,,it is a shock absorber to hold the wheels straight, probably makes it harder to turn the steering wheel,,,,,,,

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
Thanks donivan.
here's the part I ordered to upgrade to dual cylinder.
MC
Part #13-1323M
I realistically won't get to it next weekend. I'll post pix of the install.

Re: New a100 shorty owner.
I am not so sure about that gas cap,,,,,,,they all have a vent to let air in ,,,but we need one that also lets pressure and fumes out, which is now against the law,,,,so the newer caps dont let nothing out, it all goes to the charcoal canister for storage then the engine burns it,,,,,so,,,,,,if you find,,,,that the van floods out or runs rich because the pressure build up in the tank is forcing gas into the carburetor, check that cap,,,,,,,

Ok thanks. He said it was quite old. He has a bunch of old parts and cars in his pole building
