    Glass Availability Empty Glass Availability

Post by RF Man Wed Jun 03, 2015 4:32 am

Visited with a glass guy yesterday about removing the glass from my 61 pickup. Prepping the truck for paint. The reason I went to a glass guy was, every time I mess with old windshields, I end up breaking them. I've never had success removing one. He informs me that he only has a 50% success rate. My question is----if the windshield ends up broken, can replacements be had and from who. He says he can get the back and corner glass out OK.

The front windshields are available, I think the reference number is one or both of the following.
    DW00603GTN
    NAGS W603
The seal is harder to find so don't cut it if it is still soft enough to use again.

PNW glass makes them. They are fairly cheap too. Around $200. I think both Mac's and Carpenter have the seal.

    Edit:

Sorry, early morning brainfart, It's PGW who makes them. Like Old Skools say below you can find it cheap on ebay and pick it up at the nearest PGW dealer.

I have had an installer do them here at the shop for years, and the seals are no big deal what so ever, the windshield glass also has been available forever and still is. A seller on E bay currently listing one at about $169 the normal E bay bidding krap.
I have been hording quarter glass for about 10 years now and have quite a few as well as the back glass all with the FOMOCO logo.
It looks harder than it is but I dont mess with them unless I have to. Important to have the installer SEAL both sides of the glass on the OUTSIDE.  My installer carefully injects the sealant between the glass and rubber as well as the rubber to the body. In the past before he started doing them for me and done without both sides being done they usually leaked.
In the old days when the trucks were in the yards it wasnt uncommon for me to find a new gasket quite often that had a bad windshield and so I could buy them for about $5 bucks after I kicked the bad windshield out.
