In your own garage. Get a rebuild kit from your local parts store and read the instructions. One barrell carbs are easy. Just pay attention when taking apart.

Re: 240 carburator rebuild
Who is the manufacture? for sure its a do-it-yourself, there are not shops around anymore that do that. The only thing that can wear out are the throttle shaft bushings, as mine did after 300K miles. I did find a carb shop that put in new bushings. its a Holley model 1940...- rebuilt it so many times have 2 of them

If you want to spend alittle more go with a Weber 32/36.

Re: carburator for 240 motor
This company can rebuild yours or they sell newly made versions of the Holley 1900 series:
http://www.daytonaparts.com/ very few, if any manufacturers make new 1 barrel carbs anymore.

Re: carburator for 240 motor
I use the Carter off of the 300's,,,,, there are two bolt hole widths and one model that has oblong slot type mounting holes. Its a much better carb and just found a brand new one at the bone yard for $45 bucks!!
A side benefit of it is that you can also use the 300 air filter unit. The Carter with a larger venture throat size than the 240 carb and the oil filter type unit will not fit. Also the 240 venture on the air filter is taller than the Carter setup.
