When I got my '65 pickup it had a nasty dent in the driver's side nose. The metal was too torn, rusted and twisted to hammer out. I managed to find a kind soul who sold me a replacement section, so I decided to try my hand at a little metal work. I'm strictly a hobby welder with a little Craftsman mig I use a couple times a year. Here's a pic of the damaged area and the replacement piece:
And here's the replacement taped on for a test fit:
And the final product after a few hours of fiddling, grinding and sanding. A little more work to do, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
The nose had quite a few dents filled by up to an inch of bondo in some places. I ground it all off, and did some hammer and dolly work to straighten things out. I was surprised at how thin the metal was in that nose! I'm finally getting close to the end of body work, I'm happy to say.
