Re: Factory Option?
Yeah. 3 different mirror types were available. When which type was available I'm not sure of. My 65 came with the ones in the top pic.

Re: Factory Option?
Swan Necks and "some" West Coast Jr mounts used the same 3 hole triangular mount pattern.

Re: Factory Option?
MAN..!!!.. I would Love to have that Van Now..I have always wondered that also I know the 3 on the bottom are factory because of the mounting plate inside the door.. just not sure why the Factory would drill 4 more holes instead of using a bracket to connect it to the existing 3 holes like on some of the ones I have seen.. My mirrors came off a 1968 Chevy Van.. ..

Re: Factory Option?
Over the years I had formed the opinion that the mirrors with the 4 bolt mount at the bottom were dealer installed and that the swan neck and jr west coast with 3 bolt mount were factory options. I guess this blows my theory because that first pic sure appears to be a factory brochure.

Re: Factory Option?
I have had this discussion a few times with other members here as well.Seems as if the four bolt pattern is more a '65 only thing.Could have easy been a supplier issue for that year.My 1st and 2nd gen's door skin was never drilled for the three bolt pattern for the west coast or swan base mounts. Both had the triangulated, what I refer to,mailbox looking, type of mirror.
Even though not drilled,I found that both gens have a brace that runs right with door handle level all the way length of door on the inside of skin.In that brace is two already threaded pieces ready to accept bolts for a mount.Just above the one, closest to the handle,is another nut,for the other hole for mirror mount. It helps to have small arms sometimes.
With some measuring and a bit of luck,I drilled my skins and mounted three bolt, west coast style mirrors.Yeah,I did miss about 1/8" first time, first hole.Nothing a base couldn't cover.
