Re: 4 speed ever an option
Don, was the 4 speed in the 2nd gen vans a truck style granny low 1st? Or was it a normal 1st gear like the cars have?

Re: 4 speed ever an option
Well 4th gear is direct drive just like every transmission ever built so the other speeds are geared lower,,,,,,and that would make 1st gear a Granny Gear Stump pulling speed ,,,,, not to be confused with an Overdrive transmission that changes high gear into a speed that is more than 1 to 1 direct drive to something like 3/4 to 1,,,,,,,, Do you still have yours for sale, Joe?

Re: 4 speed ever an option
Don, I'm thinking I might end up using it, so its not for sale at this time.
Since I swapped to tall 275/60 rear tires, I'm thinking a 4 speed with a lower 1st gear would be nice... but I don't want a useless granny low first gear like in the SM465. I need to do a little more research on this trans, or maybe just swap it into my van and see how it does?
How does the shifter come apart from the column? I can't figure that one out... seems to be stuck to the column near the top somehow

Re: 4 speed ever an option
They are out there, but as said previously...very rare! I myself, have only seen one and that was in a 108 that had been used as a funeral delivery hauler and was black and here in Ohio! In 36 years, just one!

Re: 4 speed ever an option
Rollie - There is a rusted 1968 Chevy 108 panel in Mentor, Ohio with a 4-speed on the column. Homeowners won't sell van. I think it must be sentimental to them. I met the van owner back in 1986 and perhaps the guy died since then and the family is keeping the van. What a shame, the parts could help other vans survive. Maybe it's time to knock on the door again.
