Did ford ever have a V8 in these vans, or is it that everyone puts them in? How hard is it to change from a 6 to a basic small block 8 ? Thanks for any info. Tim

Re: FORD V8 factory FACTORY OR NOT ?
Dodge came with a 318 or a slant six. Ford never built a V8 for our early Econos. Personally I have done the V8 swap and while I used a pro built 347 stroker with over 400hp and 450 pounds of torque I will never do it again. To much trouble. Lots of mods, time and money and then you end up with poor gas mileage. I got 4 mpg. You are better off building your inline six. You can build a 170 or 200 to get close to 300 HP and still get 26 mpg. Less mods, less money and time and still a lot of fun to drive. My 200ci has 225HP right now which is more than a stock 302 and when it is done should have close to 300HP and 400 pounds of torque

Re: FORD V8 factory FACTORY OR NOT ?
I have to agree! Look gang Iv'e used the Ford 240 and it's newer 300 in trucks to tow cars with, never a problem ! Shoot the time Iv'e had them in vans from a 1967 Supervan Econoline to a 1978 Econoline . I currenty run a 300 in a 78 Ford F-100. I'd rather have it than the 302 anytime ! Anyone who has lived in the dessert can tell ya , use the dammn six ! Scrubba
