-I'm still not sure which bellhousing and flywheel I have to use for my 240 with 3 speed manual?
    -Is C5TA 6394 A the right bellhousing?
-Are there different ones with that same factory number?
-Do they all take the 164 teeth flywheel?
    -Do I have to use the 9", 9 1/2", 10" or 11" clutch? I bought a 10" at rock auto, was that a mistake?
-What's the difference between the starters of an auto and the manual transmission?

Does anybody have some time to read some numbers, count some teeth, take some measures or just share some knowledge?

    Thanks alot for your help.

I have all that stuff out in my shop. I'll take a look at it and do some measurements tomorrow. Try and figure out what you need.

    Duane in Tennessee,
Is there some kind of spacer or washer to eliminate damaging the horn plate when installing a 67 grant adaptor

I don't know anything about the Grant adapters. I only run stock wheels in my Econolines.

Thanks alot Duane, you are a big help.
It would be a big waste of money to get the wrong parts shipped over the atlantic ocean.

Dennis, I had a Grant steering wheel installed when I bought the van, but the adaptor was damaged and I went back to the nice stock wheel. My '65 has the same column like your '67, if you have a manual tranny, and my horn ring was out of function. The pre owner installed a seperate horn button on the column, I'm not sure if he installed it correct, but it seems that you have to go that way.

I went out this morning and pulled my 65 240 apart. It has the 10 inch like you bought from Rock Auto.

It has the same bell housing as yours.

You should be good to go. It has a 164 tooth flywheel as well. The starter is a three bolt. All the bolt holes are thu holes meaning no threads. I have a three bolt starter that has threads in one of the holes. I don't know what it fits. I have a 240 auto but I didn't get a starter with it so I'm not 100% sure what starter it takes. It's buried out in my barn or I'd dig it out and have a look. Hope this helps.

Yes, that helps, thank you very much. I'm glad that I ordered the right clutch. I don't have a bellhousing, yet, but I was offered one and I want to make sure to buy the right one.
But do you know what the casted number 2 behind the long number has to say? The one I was offered has a 4 and there's another one I found with an 8.
I have a 2 bolt starter from my C4 auto tranny which had a 164 tooth flexplate, maybe I can use it?
    Thanks

I don't have any idea what that number means. I wouldn't worry about it. You will need a three bolt started though. That two bolt won't work.

auto and stick starters have different end lengths for the gears to work. Auto will not jive correctly on a stick,, vice versu,,,,,
Bell housings for the V8 and big six are the same,,, and there were no big sixes in ours in 64??? A C4 number saying 64,,,,, with 65 the 1st year of the big sixes in ours.  C5 meaning 65....
Two types of clutches for the big six but yours looks correct for the flywheel...

Thanks Duanne and Vic, and happy new your to all vanners.

I got the bell now. It need's definately a two bolt starter.

Vic, my van is a '65 big six van. It was a misunderstanding, I was talking about the C4 auto tranny that was installed when I bought the van. The new bell has the C5TA... number.
How can I found out if a starter is for a manual or auto transmission? Are there any meassures I can take or can I find it out with the part number?
Do you know what shims I have to put under the flywheel, I have two with different sizes, or how I find it out?

And, Vic, I've heard you got a big parts stock. Do you have short clutch z-bar, an original clutch fork and all bellhousing bolts (with washers?) for my 240ci with 3.03 manual? And if yes would you sell and ship it to Germany.
    Thanks

Vancy65,,,,,, Still don't know your name,,, some how answering like this doesn't sound so good? LOL..
I have some links and excellent bell housing number ID,s but cannot get to them and keep this post at the same time. So will look and post it after this,, so far C5TA sounds like a 65 truck so far and should be fine for your clutch setup. Regards to starters the distance from the bolting surface to the end of the snout is different between the auto and the stick. Has do with the ring gears distance and they wont interchange without teeth alignment issues. I have boxes of starters and alternators and I usually just match the one I am taking out or replacing. Its a wonder they find the same box and so no time to really spend detailed sorting...
In regards to yours "shims under the flywheel"?????????????? I hope you are not thinking what I am thinking you are thinking??? There are NO shims that go between the flywheel and the crank shaft,,, rather those are re inforcement rings that go between the bolts and the flywheel itself and different thickness not an issue and even on some I see without that ring. If you have one I would surely install one of them.
Yep,, sometimes I win and sometimes I just spend moneys on gas,,,,, this last big sale I hit over a dozen yards looking for parts and not a thing,,, win some loose some. but YES,,, I do have a pretty good selection of anything that I have seen over the years that could use a home. All kinds of sheet metal and frame brackets,, always looking.
As much as I dislike shipping it comes as part of the package,,, the answer is yes. In the past I have never charged for packing time let alone even for the boxes and materials that I end up buying. Hopefully it also is not as bother some with the paper work either,, but I will if I have to,,, dratzzz LOL
I do ask to please use my PM for details of things like that though,, Thnx
