Its not really a "parts" van, its a runner/driver. I'm just gunna trade parts between the vans to make the DD the way I want it. The "leftover" will still be a runner/driver and fairly complete.

Made it home with the 65 Chevy. She runs real rough and stinks of varnish gas........but she does run! Fixed the Handi today too, no heat issues anymore will get more pics up later.

I changed the carb out today, I picked up a factory rebuild on ebay a couple of weeks ago. The little air cleaner that was on the old carb is plugged up and it wont run with it. The Chevy has a chrome stock air cleaner on it, so I started cleaning it up tonight. It has some rust spots thats got to the chrome but all in all it looks pretty good. I'll pick up an element tomorrow and post a befor and after pic when its done.

    Nice vans!

I've bought two vans in Arizona now and what I've figured out is this: They have lots of rust free metal down there, but all the motors are no friggin' good! Well maybe not entirely no good, but they have overheating problems and the motors get more abuse. Up here in Canada we have the opposite problem, great motors that last forever but the bodies all rot away!

Changed the window doors for the panel doors tonight. 2 of the doors will need some work on the bottom and the lower hinge area, but all in all, there workable. It got dark will have to post pics tomorrow.

Traded the panel doors to Ester and the correct front doors and installed the PPG factory tinted windows that came in the back of the parts van.

Found this little tid-bit while cleaning out the sheds at my father in laws house.......I kinda like the suicide ball!

    Kowboy's 65 Handi-Van - Page 2 ATT00060

The red captains chairs were also in the back of the parts van. I need to remove the arms from them, they get in the way of the engine cover. Other than that they fit very well and are pretty comfy too. The PO REALLY butched in the passenger seat, so I had to remake a mount using parts from the parts van. Its not done yet but its getting there, I need more steel to finish it.

Started removing the 1/4" plywood that is EVERYWHERE inside and I have LOTSA holes to weld up too!!

    Kowboy's 65 Handi-Van - Page 2 DSC02368Kowboy's 65 Handi-Van - Page 2 DSC02372

Put a turbo muffler on her too, the old one was split and was tryin to kill me. She's got a little bark now too!

Today the wife and I tore the plywood interior out............only found 4 dead mice!!

That all for this weekend, took her for a drive down the hill. She did great never got above 210*, pretty good since it was in the mid 90's out and climbing the mountain for 22 miles. Started runnin bad when I was almost home, guess its time for the electronic ignition!!

Try a Mallory ultra lite Distributor. Mine works great. I also used a Mallory coil. I have those same mirrors on my 65 Econo.

The "parts van" has a factory delco unit in it, so I'll try that first. Found my "idle all over the place" issue too. There was a bent piece of linkage off the accelerator pump cam on the carb.

Today I finally fixed the blinkers! I ordered a new cancel cam, that came today, and removed the assembly to fix it. Man let me tell ya, 44 year old grease is as hard as a rock! Thanks to the guys on the forum for having pics of what is in the column.........and the order there in.

I ended up having to "rebuild" the strips/switches that are in the switch unit. After 44 years there was alot of corrosion on the strips. Being a cheap SOB, I got the dremel out and polished the contacts and the posts they make contact with. A little tweaking and rebending, lubing, and installing the new cancel cam and...........WA-LA, I now have blinkers that work as they did when new. All that and I only had to take it back apart for adjustments and fiddling 4 times. Oh ya, the horn now works like new also.

I also fixed (rewired) the heater fan so that it works now. It would have been nice to have a defroster yesterday driving down the hill in the cold fog! Good thing I brought a towel with me for a defroster, and wore a jacket. Once again thanks to the pioneers on the forum for the front park light rewire/modification. Now they are on with the headlights! In case anyone is wonderng my parklight lenses are 1957 Chevy Apache glass lenses and trim rings. I had to make the gasket, and I'm not done yet, but they almost fit perfectly in place of the plastic stock ones. Some yellow 1157's and your in buisness, I kinda like the look myself.

Today I started tearing the Chevy "parts van" apart. Trading the parts between the 2 vans to get the Handi in daily driver mode. I pulled the electronic distributor out and started putting it in the Handi, of course I didnt put the engine at TDC (brain fart) before I yanked the distributor out. The Chevy has a chrome valve cover that will be used along with some other chrome tid-bits in the engine bay, that will also be used. I'm taking a lunch break right now and watchin the NASCAR race, will get back to it after lunch. Will take some pics too.
