I have reason to believe there was prior rear end work done on this truck. When I first got it the rear sat quite high. I think someone reversed the shackles. Can someone tell me if the spring in the back is supposed to go above the the perch or below it. What I mean is, does the shackle hang down or point up?

Re: Rear spring shackles
Thanks Scott, except I can't see the rear shackles in your picture. I changed the position of the shackles so they point up above the spring. Truck now sits lower (obviously) and the pinion angle looks less severe than before.

Re: Rear spring shackles
Thanks, Busman. That's exactly what I was looking for. As I stated earlier, my shackles originally mounted pointing down. I didn't think that was right, especially because of the pinion angle. I mounted mine like yours, and now all is right. Thanks again, I really appreciate your time. Steve

I'm surprised you haven't been blowing out the rear u joint. I had my spring bushing replaced once and the shop put the shackles in upside down by accident, rear ujoint didn't last 100 miles before it went.
I think permissible pinion angle is 5 degrees or less depending on rpm.
more details on that

Re: Rear spring shackles
Busman, I never thought I'd say this to another Guy but you have a nice clean rear end! Is that rear disc brakes as well?

Re: Rear spring shackles
Why thank you, it got a little scuffed up during the install. Rear was media blasted and painted with Eastwood Chassis paint. Yes indeed it does have disk brakes, also notice that is a Ford 9", the 8-3/4 Mopar can be seen in the background.
