I need to replace the door pin on the driver's side door. I bought some door pins from Mac's Auto. I took my 63 Falcon Club to a local restoration shop due to the fact I like the proper tools to remove the existing door pin. The shop owner told me that I will also need a brass insert. Has anyone ever replaced a door pin and what exactly is the brass insert?

Re: Door Pin Replacement
I've ordered the pins from Mac's for my '66 Club.
The old ones were easy to hammer out but the new ones were too tight.
I used a reamer to make them fit.
If yours needed brass inserts than they are really worn out.

Re: Door Pin Replacement
The pin is pressed into the outer ears of the hinge, it does not move. Now the center part of a hinge always moves, so you need a bushing in there. It is made to wear out. If it wears out too much, it will enlarge the hole that the bushing sets in. Then you need new hinges or find a bushing set that is larger and drill out the hinge holes and make it new again. This is a Chrysler hinge bushing kit that is bigger than the worn out ones on a Chevy so I use them to make Chevys new again,,,,,

Re: Door Pin Replacement
Thanks Donivan,
I knew if I asked I would get an answer from the great folks in here. The pictures also are great.
Econorat,
The mechanic said I needed the brass bushings just by looking at the door on the van. He did not remove the door pins so I really don't know how worn the hinges are. According to the mechanic, the door hinges always came stock with the brass inserts.

Re: Door Pin Replacement
You got a lot of choices,,,,they make nylon bushings also. But it all depends on the hole the bushings are pressed into. If its worn out you can probably weld or braze a little metal into it and drill it out for a tight for the stock bushings. Or just go with an oversized bushing and pin. So you got all the ammunition you need to shoot down the problem,,,,,,

Re: Door Pin Replacement
Interesting, I don't have these bushings.
And the pins i ordered where so tight that bushings wouldn't fit.
I gotta check the shop manual tomorrow.
