Re: Doghouse removal
Well,,,,you can start by tapping a chisel or screwdriver between the flange and see how tough the spotweld really is. If you are not going to save any of that area anyways, it wont matter if you SCRATCH it a little. You can use an air chisel or cut off wheel to separate the doghouse from the floor. Or just use a sawzall to remove the doghouse, since you need to remove part of the floor anyways to make the hole bigger. Sometimes using a spotweld remover is not the easy way to do it,,,,,,that would be my last resort,,,,,,,

Re: Doghouse removal
I've had good luck just drilling a small hole right into the center of the spot weld. Then using a chisel to pop the doghouse lip up off the floor.

Re: Doghouse removal
yeah I picked up one of those double ended ones at the auto parts store, it works ,but the life span is pretty short, also some of the spotwelds can be bigger or doubled and ya end up drilling all the way thru anyway. If your thinking of doing one like Billski's I'd just drill them out , your cover will be alot larger anyway except maybe up front, maybe even just cut the cover from the floor at the lip, towards the back . Ive been giving this subject some thought too.

Re: Doghouse removal
When the GM guys put their doghouses back down to the floor, do you bolt them down or re-weld them? Just curious.

Re: Doghouse removal
I attached mine with sheetmetal screws and used seam sealer. It sure makes it nice to remove in the future for the next engine swap.
