    Hi,

I am thinking of buying a chevy van from a farmer we buy fruit from. It apparently runs and is all original and has very little rust being from CA. Curious what kinda stuff I should be on the lookout for in terms or repairs to make sure it is trouble free?? I want to use it for hauling stuff. It has an automatic tranny and I think a 307. It might be a 1970. I have to go down and check it out more and get a vin. It is the model with windows all around and seems to be the longer version they offered. Here are two pics I have of it. I tried to jump start it a year ago since it didn't have a battery in it so I just hooked the wires up to my car engine but the battery cables in the van started smoking! Could be the battery difference since I had it hooked up to a big battery in my audi A8...

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hy Eric,
looks like your have found a good looking truck But i have some bad news for you If your having trouble getting it jump started you may want to looking for something that runs as much as these old vans are great it may talk a lot more work then your wanting to get into .. I know i resently spotted on aand after getting it home found out the hard way it was going to take a lot more then just a battery to get it going again . and this one was running when it was parker even had to key in it . I do say though if you can get it cheap buy it bring it home clean it up a pit and sell it on ebay if it's rally nice you may dobble your money ,,good luck .. hyway

Anything that has been sitting a while can be alot of work to get the bugs out. But I can tell you this you'll have more fun with this van more than a newer van or pickup. Once these early's get in your blood there no cure.

Sounds like a stuck solenoid or possibly jumped it backwards.

    Looks nice,

Hopefully the engine isn't locked up. Good luck with it if you buy it Eric.

    Hi,

Thanks so much. I just chatted with the owner and he was driving it around a month ago. I guess I hooked up the jumper cables wrong or something. He will sell it for $400 since we do a lot of business together, and I plan to restore it since this won't be a primary vehicle. I will definitely post my progress with it if I buy it.

    Thanks,
    Eric
