I have found a 65 HD van for sale that has a 200ci in it and was thinks of transferring the drive line into my 62. Thoughts?? It has he 200 with a new weber carb with the throttle cable setup. It has the good 3.03 3speed tranny I want and good side doors. Should I do it?? It has the drive train I want but want to be sure the parts will work. Please help. I think this would be better then buying the drive train piece by piece from multiply people. I want a solid drive train with a 200 instead of my 144. Thoughts???

Re: 65 Heavy Duty parts van
Engine will bolt in but transmission won't, the top mount is different on the 65. If you can find a 63/64 transmission you can use that tailstock. The 61/62 tailstock is different. I have a 65 automatic in my 63 and made a simple adapter for it.If the price is right and you get the driveshaft and 9" rear axle I'd do it. The 9" will also bolt in but use your e-brake cables, they are also different in 65. Trying to find all the parts separately now is getting difficult. Another thing to look for is a 1st gen Bronco small six throttle cable bracket. It bolts to the 200 and the 240 throttle cable bolts directly to it without modification.

Is there a way to make that tranny work?? Can I transfer the tranny mounts over? Or is this just way to difficult to make work?

Re: 65 Heavy Duty parts van
With a lot of welding you could put all the 65 mounts in your 61. The engine and transmission are in a different location so you would have to move your inner motor mount support brackets, add some to the outside of the frame rail to use the 65 crossmember then remove the crossbrace above the transmission and install the one from the 65 further back. I have done it but a lot of work, the adapter was much easier.

Re: 65 Heavy Duty parts van
So I just need the tailstock from a 63-64 3speed tranny to bolt on the 65HD tranny and it'll work? If so,, where can I get one?

Re: 65 Heavy Duty parts van
So if I bolt a tail shaft from a 63-64 tranny to the 65HD tranny it will bolt in my 62??? I am just trying to be sure. This is a lot of money for me. And want to have all my ducks in a row.

Re: 65 Heavy Duty parts van
The swap I did used a 1971 200 from a Maverick. I bolted a complete flywheel, bellhousing and transmission from a 66 Econoline 170 directly into my 63 van. I then used the transmission yoke, driveshaft and 9" axle from a 65 240 HD van, reused my original brake cables. Everything bolted in with no cutting or welding. I eventually got a pair of 64 auto motor mount arms and swapped to an automatic. I used an automatic from a 65 170 van, made an adapter to mount it to the 63 van frame mount, changed the transmission yoke to one from a 65 240 automatic and also used that driveshaft., again no cutting.rehreh07 wrote:So if I bolt a tail shaft from a 63-64 tranny to the 65HD tranny it will bolt in my 62???
