Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
I can relocate the motor to the left of the dash, left of the column I believe...but living where I do, I may just make a small hand crank just so they can operate manually. I will cross that bridge more at a later date. Thanks for the questions/comments.

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
My last custom vehicle I had did not even have windshield wipers on it. Generally these vehicles don't get driven hard in the rain, so generally you are just caught in a storm. I would put Rain-x on the windshield or wax from the car wash and the water would bead off the glass well enough that it did not effect my vision. If it did, I usually pulled over and waited for the rain to pass. I think I got caught in two rainstorms in the 5 years I drove that truck in the summer. I won't bother putting them on mine, but I'll have it on to pass inspection.

This is pure art. This helps me understand people that walk around an art gallery and are impressed with the work on the wall and just can't stop looking at it!

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
That was the best way you could have put that, Vanadian. THANKS The best is when you walk away thinking WOW how the Hell did I pull that off??? Or to think you have seen it all, only to find something to pull your interest back into the "Build", looking it over to make sure you got it.
I am at least going forward this week...I have some unexpected time on my hand and its only 107 degrees in ARiZoNA Why not put the motor and trans back in!!!! I mocked up everything...still needs spark plug wire holders and to paint the brackets...probably deleting the EGR too.

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
so I have been looking online at s10 shock relocation...so I thought, let me try my hand at this. It will work for many applications with a need to relocate. I took 2 inch angle iron and cut 7 inches off. Next cap it with a 2 inch plate and drill it for the shock to bolt to. I took the s-10 shock and cut the mount from the bottom and popped out the old bushing. I purchased a DORMAN universal shock bolt kit from the local parts house. Then drilled the bottom control arm to mount the shock, and then made reference of the suspension travel so that I could locate the top mounting position and tack it in place. check out the pics, it worked and only cost me 14 bucks, wooohooo!!!!
KEEP the questions and comments coming!

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
You've got vision, my friend! Is there room for the windshield seal to fit between the dash and the frame? Can't wait to see how this turns out...

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
Yes the seal and windshield will fit, I left approx. an inch of lip where the dash meets the windshield...so the seal will fill most of that gap.
Here is a crude cardboard mock up I threw together, I'm quite pleased,
whatcha think???
The center will house the a/c vents at the top, the air gauges on the lower left and stereo on the lower right. with gauges on the area above the column and a glove box on the right panel. A little adjustment here and there still to be done...but you get the idea

Thanks for the comments, I forgot to mention the dash unit holds a heater core too...yes it can actually get cold in the desert too!!!
Next time I will most likely set up the gauges, keep checking back and thanks for fallowing my build.

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
So I managed to include one of the cooler items Matt B. sold me with the vehicle, The Killer 70s Chevy bowtie gauge cluster. and I wanted to include an old pic of the van just before I got it...Flashback Enjoy!!!!
It will really PoP!!!, once the dash is painted
Just for fun here is a pic of the S10 subframe that I made to bolt into the van

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
BIG WEEK, took the van for media blasting
It was done at Jetstrip's airport hanger at Gateway Airport...they did a great job and I love the new NAKED look...it's SEXY scars and all!!
https://i.servimg.com/u/f58/18/86/99/20/doors10.jpg" alt=""/>
Got her home and used a acid prep. rust converter spray on all the metal.
Need to find a couple of side or rear doors, two that I have had extensive damage...I think I am going to wire it next

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
...I was invited to take part in a SkillsUSA event. It's a program for kids who want to get into various parts of the industry. They can win scholarship money. So I towed my van to the Phoenix Convention Center. It was cool, the first time taking the van out in public. Plenty of people would ride up to the trailer and check it out, and then pass by, giving a thumbs-up or a head nod. I got to downtown PHX. I got to drive down into the North building, and into the biggest room you can imagine. We set the van up, then we had the kids go threw different stations, each with unique auto related tests. At my station they got to check out the van and take a short quiz...they had a great time. Some kids even hung out after to ask questions...it was a great time!!! Good to see the bond of vehicles ring true.

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
Congrats Heinz!!! Maybe some of those kids will be inspired enough by your van to get the itch to take on a Vintage Van and keep another one on the road where they belong...
Any pics from the event?

Re: Bagged 1966 G van under construction
The automotive technology program at Lake Havasu High (AZ) is a "SkillsUSA" program, as well as the CAD/Drafting program.......The auto shop actually teaches the operation of their CAD plasma-cutting table..... I donated the 307 and three speed from my van to the program....
