There are still a few people in my neck of the woods, here in central CA, that have heard that sound before, coming from a Federal Siren SD 10 air raid siren. During the cold war several were put up around town, where they (Most of them) still wait silently waiting to alert us to incoming danger. Their control point is long gone, but they do look cool to those of us who know they are indeed not a yellow cell phone tower.

They used to be tested on a regular basis. When the school kids heard them, they were to hide under their desks. These tests stopped around the time the second generation "G"s were coming off the assembly line.

Actually Donivan, LA still has a lot of them. I'm sure San Diego has a few as well?

These are the Tornado warning sirens,,,,,,when the sky turns black and the winds kick up, the last thing you want to do is hear that siren go off until its all clear or the tornado rips it out of the ground,,,,thats the worst part about driving across country,,,,,I got caught in the Oklahoma City one a year ago,,,,,,just missed the Joplin one a few years ago,,,,,but go up to PROFILE and put down just where in the 1000 miles of California you are and see what vanners are around you.....

That's some classy merchandise there. Must be one of those discount stores you like. I'll take a couple bottles of purple power rust preventor if you see it.

Finally after a week of hiding from the weather,,,I go cruising,,,,,,and its a gas,,,,

big potholes hiding in the viaducts,,,,,but made it to a Maxwell street fried pork chop sandwich....

....made it back home safely,,,,,
