its a 1970!
After posting some pics i found out its a 1970. i am starting to clean the inside of it out. There is a bunch of crap in it. I dont really like the wheels that were inside the van. and i found out there is two different seats for the front seats. one is a low back, and one is a high back. I didnt get a pic but ive decided im going to just buy different ones. so right now thats my first issue. what seats will fit nicely in here and what should i look for?

Are you talking about the wheels? I would like to sell them for different ones. Can you anyone give me an idea of how much they go for? There in pretty good condition.

Re: its a 1970!
what you have are rims most like, before you get rid of them hit them with some Mother's and a drill buffing wheel. You'll be surprised how nice they look then

Re: its a 1970!
Yes rims. I know it used to bother me too when people didnt know the dofference of a wheel and rim. Ive gove up on trying to explain. But yes my rims. Im not a bery bog fan on these mags. However since i like to make things look nice and purty i will be doing that! However whatbis the pattern size? If i were to look for a different rim what size should look for

If your selling them, please contact me first! I'd love to see what you'd want and if shipping is reasonable I might as well scoop them up!

Yep, slotted mags, they look good when cleaned up. Prices vary for old ones and you can still buy them brand new these days.

Re: its a 1970!
okay i have some time on the wheels
.lately i have been cleaning out the whole inside of the van. took all the junk and old carpet out. its looking better!
i want to start looking to put new passenger and driver seats in. i found these on craigslist for $60 a piece! what do you guys think? will they be hard to install? how did you guys install your seats?
ive also been coming up with ideas for the back of the van. its gonna be the typical surfer van. couch/bed surfboard area etc. this is an idea i have so far as far as seats and table for eating. i want it to fold down into a bed. i have a bunch of wood flooring i want to install. idk about the walls and roof yet.

Re: its a 1970!
Finally have had time to post up some progress. So far i have taken apart all the wheel cylinders and either replaced or rebuilt all the brake parts. Cleaned out the brake lines with rubbing alcohol. replaced all rubber lines. replaced master cylinder. Still just cleaning up the insides such as the dash, motor cover, rebuilt the over head shelf that my grandfather had built and installed many years ago. getting around to painting the grill. Brakes should be finished up in the next week or so. i can finally move it after its been sitting for the past 11 years! super excited on this project. One question so far. how do you remove the horn button to remove the steering wheel. im going to be restoring it. thanks guys i will find some time tomorrow to post some pics!

Re: its a 1970!
Here is a few pics of the progress i have made.
Got the steering wheel off and putting some work into it. some plastic weld by JBweld does good! i did my vw bug wheel and it looks new. i cant stop working on this thing! My grandpa had made an overhead shelf for a CB radio and extra storage space. i took it out and re made it. Freshly painted the dash. got some diamond plate rubber flooring. started redoing the motor cover. soon i will be placing thin ply wood over the roof and walls. also wood flooring. once i get there i will figure out what im going to do as far as extra seats, bed, storage, mini fridge, etc. been having a blast working on this van.
as for as mechanical stuff. all the brakes should be done within a week

Re: its a 1970!
so i have been doing some work on it. I recently put the wheels on it and moved it to a better working spot. unfortunately i do not have a garage so this will have to do. Its where i built my bug so it'll work. i just needed to get it out of the weeds and dirt. had some friends help me move it. so i have repainted and made the motor cover look a bit better. got some vinyl on the front floor boards. rebuilt some brake cylinders. got 3 of them installed. so brakes should be done soon. cleaned and painted the dash. hooked up a battery and all the lights and wipers work except the front left blinker. i found some matching seats i may be able to use. along with a matching bench seat. im feeling really confident on this van. tomorrow i plan on getting the ply wood cut for the roof.
let me know what you guys think!

Re: its a 1970!
Nice Progress Jake! From the looks of the picture, you may have to cut a hole in the roof on the driver's side to give yourself some headroom!!! I love when young people take an interest in these old gems! Just keep picking away at it and it will come along nicely! Congrats!

Re: its a 1970!
Thanks guys I appreciate it! Right now I'm putting the front drums on. I believe I tighten the nth to 8.5 foot pounds, then back it off a notch, apply the lock and pin. But when I do that it's pretty hard to spin the drum by hand. It spins freely before I tighten it. Any advice
