Parts needed For 64 Econoline Build Empty Parts needed For 64 Econoline Build

    Post by zach_1950 Mon Dec 16, 2013 4:56 pm

Hey guys just joined the forum because I am in need of some help.

I have recently purchased a 64 Econoline pickup and its missing some key parts. I need to get hold of some seats and a gas tank.

I don't have any pictures yet because it is still up in Tennessee waiting for me to come pick it up.

Also I was wondering what are the chances it will have a 200 instead of the 144?

    Thanks in advance

The only chance it has the 200 is if a previous owner put one in.

WELCOME to VV....  Very Happy  wealth of information here for you... What type 64 is it,, does it have an automatic, a 4spd or three on the tree???  Perhaps also an H/D with the better 9" rear axle???   five wndw or three??? Dont mean to blast you with stuff you may not know, but you soon will,, LOL.... its all important "STUFF"  to know about.  BTW,, 64 is considered the change year when they started to add and change things before the lates.  Generally, when we talk about them its in three catagories,,  the Earlies (61-64), the lates (65-67) and the GENII'S (68-74).

The "STOCK" gas tank is hard to find in prestine condition. After 50 years its not uncommon to be rusted or rusted OUT... LOL....  Fred Carrillo came up with a replacement tank that is a little larger using a Mustang 20 gallon tank and I think he has it on his web site.  I dont have it handy for you or I would post it.
Out here in SoCal,, rust is not the issue, versus there have been none coming out in the bone yards for a long time now, as well as if they do they have holes drilled in them. Its illegal to sell them here now for a long time..so they either drill holes in them or puncture them.
Like posted, if it has a 200 in it, then someone put it in. In regards to the seats, are you missing just the seats or the mounting brackets also.....

Why is it illegal to sell a gas tank?

It is not a five window. That's about all the solid information I can give you for the moment. I bought it from my uncle sight unseen. We sold it to him 8 years ago and he hasn't done anything with it so I convinced him to sell it back to me.

Its missing the seats and the brackets. If you could find a link to that tank guy that would be awesome I wouldn't mind using a larger tank.

Zach, if you click on the Member tab at the top of the page and then type fmc56 in the username box, it will bring up his member avatar. Next, click on the down arrow next to his name and choose send a PM(Private Message), it will bring up a box for you to type in a message. Just put something like gas tank in the subject line. When you're done asking him for info, just hit send and you'll be on your way! Welcome aboard!!!

I have two tanks, a shelf FULL of straps, buckets of hdw, seats and all kinds of different year mounting brackets for them....  LOTS OF STUFF,,, LOL.....
Stupid CA,,, its all about paint that doesnt stick anymore, so on,,  The "FUMES" from the tanks I suppose??   I dont know but I DO KNOW that every single Pick ur parts, Ecology and all the rest that I go to looking for parts,, they ALL put holes in them??? And wont even sell it to me with the hole in it???
64 is a good year that they started to make the best improvements getting ready for 65 and up with a taller doghouse and a REAL engine cross member, so on.  64 is good , ....

Alright guys I just picked up the truck today so here's the details.

It's a three speed on the colum, not a nine inch, I do have a tank and the seats/brackets, and now I'm not so sure it is a 64.

Can anyone decifer this vin? E10SH241006

I will post pictures when I get home and can do it on the computer. Can't figure out how to work it on the phone.

THERE IS ONLY ONE YEAR that has TWO donout mount holes in the frame and is ONLY a 64. If yours does not have the two holes it cannot be a 64. If not and registered as a 64,, not much to do about it. However the CORRECT VIN numbers will be for sure stamped into the doghouse floor sealing edge on the passengers side. They SHOULD also be on a rear tail light cross bar inside the truck.

You have a 1962 model assembled in December 1961. The original engine was a 144, which at the time was the small engine.  A 200 will swap in fairly easily and will give you plenty of power.

If your truck still has the door tag, enter the data here to see what you have.
    http://econolineid.com

Check to see which transmission you have. Hopefully, the original transmission has already been replaced. The 1961-1962 Econolines came with the "crash box" transmission. 1963 and later had a much better transmission. See pictures here: http://econolineid.com/transmission.php?s=id. The 1963 and 1964 transmission will bolt right up to your truck.

Thanks for the bottom picture Vic for the mounting of a 65-67 C4. Id like to find that tailshaft or a 2nd gen C4 tailshaft setup. Then i'll use your acc. cable and kick down cable. Thanks Ken

In regards to that setup,, its not what I would call a clean install,,no offense to whose ever I got that picture from.  I keep it in my "HACKED" album,,, LOL.... there is an adapter mount to do it cleanly. I just dont like the idea of that it determines how high and the front to back placement as you are stuck with the donout mount location. Its very critical in an early as you dont have a hump in the back of the doghouse for added bell housing clearance and air circulation. Also, if using the adapter I posted below, you are STILL using the weaker donout mount. The red C4 picture compliments of Bob Hollingsworth.
When I designed my transmission cross member I took all of that into account as well as shift rod and exhaust clearance as well as the stronger under trans mount.
I have all of the C4 tail stocks in stock,, LOL.... Donout mount and 65-67 with I think ONE of the GENII left??   they are impossible to locate anymore.  None coming out anymore and could kick myself in the rear for passing them up when I knew better,,, KRUD,,   as in STUPID.....
