Camper top seal Empty Camper top seal

    Post by jupiter8 Fri Nov 08, 2013 5:01 am

Good morning everyone. I recently purchased a 1963 Falcon camper. It is the one in my profile picture. It has the rounded pop-top on it. The guy I bought it from said it leaked a little around the side door because of a bad door seal. It actually leaks from the camper top. When I look up from below, I can see light around the edges. Something had also slightly dented the camper tops top while in the down position. I don't know if that also contributes. I assume that I need some sort of seal between the roof and pop-up. Yesterday, I was driving along and saw a camper just like mine that had a very thick black seal around the top of the roof and pop-up. It looked very good and I thought it was factory made. When I got back to the office, I did a Google search and couldn't find anything that looked like that seal. Does annyone make a reproduction seal? Is the black one a home-made job? Thanks.

That seal is  just a foam seal - available at any builders supply!  Get one that is imprevious to water!  Usa a flexible caulk in needed (sparingly) on the opposite side of the seal if needed.  You will possibly find after removing the complete top ( best )  to check all wood  panels- possibly needing new wood from water & rot?? I know - have 3 tops currently. That top was a conversion done  from 1961- 1968 by "Travel Equip. corp." in new jersey-was usually done by them & yet some dealers did that also. Those tops are the easiest to raise & lower & offer great versitility for the vans & camping. There were 3 different types = 2 of which had a different window design & 1 that was used only on dodge vans that was  not rounded on the   forward end-cut off & flat ended =looked weird to me .replace all the screws / bolts securing the top with stainless &  look at the wood thats under the top mounting - as that is a custom made piece  yet easily done. That project is best done in summer time or inside a  shop / garage in winter. Happy vannin= yes =black seal is homeade one =cheers
