brake lights on Empty brake lights on

Post by chainsaw Thu Sep 26, 2013 12:45 pm

Drove to the store and when I got back noticed the brake lights were still on. When you push on the brake pedal and let off, the brake lights go off for a second then slowly come back on. All other lights work fine. Would a bad brake switch keep the brake lights on? Where do I start looking, by the way, its a 62. Thanks.

The Brake lights work off a switch on the back of the master cylinder (61-66). If the seal goes bad it will fill up with brake fluid and provide a path for current to flow to the lights. Can't help with a PN.

Thanks guys, I'll order one tomorrow. I sure hope its that simple, I can figure out most things except for electrical problems. `Luckily , the truck had been completely rewired when I got it and everything has been working fine till now.

Went and got my new switch, hooked up the battery to move the truck to replace it and the brake lights turn off now. Now I'm wondering if its really the switch or a short.

Changed the brake switch and the lights turn off now. Never knew the brake switch could keep the lights off as well as on. Thanks again guys.
