    Electrical Gremlins.. Empty Electrical Gremlins..

Post by Rayallen Thu Sep 05, 2013 12:20 pm

Having damn electrical issues again. Finally got the motor back in and ready to do the timing and I can not even get the Battery, Starter Solenoid to act right.

I think the problem is bad battery cables and a bad ground.

So far I bought a the better Motorcraft Ford Solenoid and installed it. All the wires on the correct post. I have it bolted to the floor because the DogHouse is currently out. i charged the battery to make sure it was good.

When I turn the key sometimes I get the starter to turn, but it only works a couple of times and I loose power completely or here the solenoid clicking. (Brand new motorcraft $32 solenoid)

Whats really odd is I unhooked the battery and when putting the cables back on the battery the starter engaged without the key in the ignition Shocked WTF

I examined the battery cables and they are worn so my next step is to replace all the battery cables and the cable from the solenoid to starter as well. Hopefully this along with trying to get the solenoid grounded better will help.

Verify =Battery specific gravity!! also= have auto parts  do this & load test it!!  then u know if its good? make sure the engine is =Grounded to the frame, chassis and battery is done same! Then checking solenoid again against a addl one ?? sometimes solenoids can be bad right out of the box! Lastly =key switch!! Remember if dealing with old worn parts- sometimes they just quit or wear shows up! New battery positiev & negative cables always advised!
