on that note, my 67 was my dad's, bought new.
in the 70's i always wanted it as custom vans were in.
anyway i could never get rid of it, and have been working on it these past couple of years
    thanks again

    back again
i finally got the new turn signal switch, and it solved the problem.
    there is one thing though...

when i push in the 4 way button, it turns on the flashers, as it should
however. i can't physically pull it back out to turn them off.
    it makes no sense
while the steering wheel is off, i can flip the little piece of black plastic that is visable, and they shut off.
i even tried it with the turn signal switch plugged in, but not installed on the column, and i can't physically release the hazard switch.

am i missing the obvious or does it sound like a defective part?

also, i seem to be having trouble remembering the order of the horn parts when reassembling the horn and steering wheel. does anyone have a diagram?

    thanks

I would probably say you need to get mean with it,,,,,,,I think they normally are pretty hard to pull out,,,,,check out what spring lock keeps it in and lift up on it to release the button,,,,,see if that is the problem,,,,,,on the horn,,,,IF,,,,,,you mean above the steering wheel,,,,,,make sure the horn brush is in,,,the round plate goes on,,,,,then the cup,,,,then the plastic ring with 3 screws,,,,,then hope the horn works and shuts off,,,,,,

,,,,lets dial this in a little bit better,,,,,,So are you saying you can push the button in and the lights come on, but you can't pull the button to shut them off unless,,,like in my picture,,,,you push the red section back in to move the button out?    The button needs to be able to be pulled out even if you have the switch out, now if it won't pull out After you put the switch back in, then you might not have it in correctly or it is the wrong switch,,,,,

you are correct, push button in - flashers work
can't pull switch back out to turn the flashers off ( either mounted or off column)

in your photo, that interior red piece is the only way to release it (with very little effort)

regarding the horn, i think there is only one way to to assemble the parts but something doesn't seem right
    from the top down...
horn button with rubber that seats in the silver cup
silver cup, with plastic piece and three screws inside the cup
then the somewhat cupped metal piece with the three slots and three holes that accept the three pronged plastic
piece mentioned above (should the slightly cupped piece be placed cup up or cup down?)
all this rests on the spring loaded little piece coming up through the steering wheel
if that is right i will try again
    i was getting frustrated
i will try pictures if i don't get it
    should be easy
    thanks

I guess   you could try and press the button to see if it pops out,,,,,,but if it don't, then try harder to pull it out or send it back,,,,,,,,the object of the game is to get the horn brush to touch the flat washer on the steering shaft,,,,,and that would be the cup bending that disk down  when you push it,,,,,the center of the disc needs to go up,,,,,the the plastic needs to fit through all the holes and tighten down to the steering wheel ,,,,,,but test the horn before you put the cup on,,,,,,touch the brush that comes up through the hole in the steering wheel to the steering shaft or nut with pliers or a screwdriver or something,,,,,horn should blow,,,,if not you need to fix it 1st,,,,,,,
