1965 VIN decode?
Hi all- I apologize in advance if there is a decoding section or protocol I should follow, but I am new here... I bought a 1965 A100 today. The VIN is 1962044213... Could someone decode? I tried to use an online decoder but it can't be right. Thanks!!!

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
No, unfortunately. It's a criminal matter at this point and the Sonoma County DA is pressing charges against the shop owner. When that is done there will be a civil suit. The whole thing is a drag. I really wish I still had that truck.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
The whole van was repainted, for better or WORSE. I will scrape some paint in a door jamb or something but I was hoping the original color could be determined from a data plate somewhere.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
look under the rubber weather strip either under the front/ side door weather strip or the windshild rubber.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
I will give it a thorough look today after work. When I saw the van yesterday it was very obvious that I needed to buy it immediately, but I had no way to get it home without leaving my work truck, so I stashed it at a friend's house nearby. The paint job it just received was pretty excessive, so I have not found any original paint yet.

I will look under the headlight rings too, and behind the bulbs.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
Another sure place to look is around the heater, especially above it with a mirror.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
congrats on the new van, first thing you need to buy is a manual off ebay just for your van, there you can find anything you need, if not just ask the guys on here, the manuals are great with paint codes wire diagrams, all kinds of specs,

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
Thank you- that's good stuff... A few more questions (knowing less, as I do, about the A series than I do about Econolines...): Are window rubbers available in case I decide to do a really proper re-paint? Are the headlight ring repros any good? What is the standard offset and backspace for the wheels??
I will post pics- you will like this van!
Thanks all!!!

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
All weatherstrip is available as new. I'd say stay away from repro headlight rings. Can't help you with the original wheel size as I don't even know if the set on mine before I made the rears wider was original or not.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
The repop head light rings selling for $80.00 on e-bay are top of the line work (very nice) what window are we talking about, front doors or the barn doors ?? are they the stationary of pop outs?? the stationary barn door windows is what i'm not sure of.

Re: 1965 VIN decode?
Front windows and non-pop rears. Oddly, the front window rubber looks and feels brand new. I think they put new glass and seals in the front and then painted right over it!!!
