Chroming my Mirrors Empty Chroming my Mirrors

Post by mbasaraba Fri Mar 29, 2013 2:44 pm

So I am not sure these are "California Mirrors" but I love these big mirrors on my van.

    Chroming my Mirrors 66spor10

BUT!!!! They need to be CHROME! I pulled the mirrors off the van. The top bracket didnt want to come off so I had to take the bolts out and leave them on for the time being.

Trying to get the mirror part off of the brackets without breaking the mirrors. Everything is so rusty, I sprayed it down with PB Blaster and letting it sit for a few hours to soak in.

I sanded the parts that I could get off.

I wanted to start a thread showing the rebuild/chroming process for these mirrors. I can tell it is going to be a LOT of work...

Has anyone ever got pricing from someplace to chrome a set of mirrors like this?

Curious how much they were going to charge?

What prep did they require for that price?

i'd think you can find repop mirrors with out the tube steel cheaper than buying the glass mirror it's self

Those are West Coast mirrors, the cost to chrome would be up there because there are a lot of parts there. I powder coated mine 8 years ago and still look great

As said, "West Coast Mirrors" is what yours are.
Search for replacements, because rechroming is going to be BIG bucks.
Try to find a stainless steel or good chrome replacement.
The cheap stuff has a poor finish that does not hold up.

I think Matt was trying to get a feel for pricing because he's trying out the new chroming kit he purchased.

I looked into chroming mine before I had them powder coated a shop in south FL wanted $300 for the pair [a guess estimate] and had to be rust and pit free you already have the best mirrors you can actually see out of powder coating is way cheaper and will hold up better than chrome [wont scratch as easy or rust or pit] and is available in many colours maby powder coat them yellow to match the van just a thought?....

i agree matt is trying to get a idea what it may cost but if the replacment is still stainless and cheaper with new glass then steer the customer in that direction and it should pay back 2 /3 fold.

I checked on getting my Handi Van emblems chromed and they wanted $60 each & they said the cost would be more if they we're pitted. I could only imagine what the cost would be on them big mirrors.
