67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
I saw a post on here some time ago about using the rear bumper from 1st gen camaros on an early van front and rear, but no pictures. Anybody have any photo examples? I measured the bumper of a 67 parked infront of costco the other day and it seemed to be a little short.

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
so do you need to modify them like that to fit?or can they be left whole and "slide" right on?

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
I did this a while back. Used the stock Econoline bumper brackets and the stock center brackets from the Camaro. The Econoline brackets needed to be cut (almost to the "Y" in the bracket) and arms out of 1/8" x 1/2" steel fabed, welded and drilled to line up with the stock Camaro brackets. Working on the split bumpers for the rear right now. Not really a hard job, but it takes a lot of time to make sure everything is level and spaced correctly ... Good luck!!!

Make sure you get a 69 rear - check on ebay, I think the 67/68 is different. Might work, but I don't know of anybody's that's tried it.

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
Im pretty sure there's alot more going on with the van go split cameron bumpers than people think. Not a direct bolt on I believe. Plus im pretty certain they sectioned out an bit in the center of the bumpers to give them a thinner appearance and the shaved the holes before sending them out to be chromed

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
I went and knocked on the door of a neighbor earlier today,he has a 73 split bumper camaro in his garage ,after about 20 min. of standard Bull shippin' he let me touch his car and take measurements ,,There doesnt seem to be any need to section and weld the splits to get the proper length ,to hug the corners and butt up next to the licence plate recess on the back of the e-vans.The mods needed for the mounts look pretty elementary too<-- dont quote me on that..I've been drinking beer the past hour while starring at the van.mothradeath wrote:Im pretty sure there's alot more going on with the van go split cameron bumpers than people think. depends on your definition of affordable...I did a quick google search and came up with an average price of $200 bucks a pair!

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
Twice as much as what the full lengths are going for but still totally reasonable. I wouldn't mind doing them on my 2nd econo down the road.

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
So they don't come up close enough to the plate cutout? 9" is alot. Did you buy 3 or them or 4 to get the extra? I'm glad you are doing this and posted the details. I've been wanting to go this route eventually, it's a great look.
Do you happen to know what the inside width of a '68 rear bumper is? I've heard it's to narrow but never gotten a measurement of one. It doesn't have the plate notch in the middle so it would be better than the '69 if it fit up front.
btw, that is one righteous table you've got there. That cant's be solid steel.

Re: 67-69 camaro rear bumpers?
I don't know the ID of the 67/68 bumpers. Someone on here told me the '69 was the best to use, so I bought one, and it fits really good. As for the 70-73 splits you need 4 of them to get the 9" section. If you look at the bumper in the pic that isn't painted, you can see the left overs from cutting them down . And those tables are solid cast grey steel 4'x6' ea , they're called welding platens, they're perfectly flat and square, the holes are for clamps and tooling to hold your work in place while you weld.
