My '65 has an A745 manual, I found one locally for $125 I'm going to get as a spare and just want some assurance its the same trans.

I think all the A100 manuals use the A745.

    Ok, need some expert info.

I went and checked out the trans and it is an A745 like I need however, it appears that "something" has broken off the housing around the input shaft. You can see the break in the picture below, I don't know if this is purely a cosmetic issue or not having never seen one of these out the vehicle before. It looks like whatever it was broke off long ago judging by the grease that's on it, does it matter that its broken?

If its a needed part, can this part be replaced?

Anyone seen one of these before?

slight update, after some googling it looks like that piece should extend out to the gear splines (protecting the shaft) so it is a needed part. Looks like it extends through the clutch pack as well.

Here's an image of a long tail shaft A745 but you can see where the thing extends out.

it also looks like a rebuild kit for one of these is only about $125, it might be worth it just to rebuild mine later and forget about the spare.

So in this case that trans isn't worth anything but spare parts without a new part to replace the broken one. I'll make the guy an appropriate offer for it, and some other small pieces, and see what he says.
