Is the 1st gen windshield washer hose supposed to have a check valve or something to keep the pump wet?

Mine works fine after its been primed but looses the prime after a day or so and then won't draw the fluid from the bag until I prime it again.

whats missing, what do I need here?

If a pump won't pump, I would think it is sucking air or the suction valve is not shutting off,,,,If you got one of these electric ones, you might be able to remove the pump cover and see if you get lucky and there is only some dirt in it that you can clean out.....

Is that the pump I should have? that looks like it attaches to the windshield wiper motor? My WW motor is a two speed but has no previsions for a pump attachment. The pump I have is a small motorized rotary pump inline on the hose from the bag. however it clips into a clip that is attached to the body and it looks original but maybe it isn't?

Yours sure looks like an aftermarket one,,,,,,and those little 12 volt washer pumps are probably more square looking now.......

The problem is the pump wont stay primed, There was a check valve in the line but the WW fluid attacked the diaphragm and it stopped working. Probably because it was made for air and not ammonia based washer fluid. I cant find a good check valve anywhere.

I love those old footpumps. Had one on an old Dodge GT. Seem to be hard to find.

Am hoping for somebody to come out with a really simple and sturdy vehicle with foot pumps, window cranks and few if any electronic gizmos. Oops, I have one already-my ChevyVan!
