Re: farther & son project 66 no-door
Nice to get the next gen involved!
I got a big quote from the local soda blaster. I decided I'd go another way. Check your local guys, they may be reasonable!
Sand can warp, so avoid it if possible, unless the guy is a serious pro at sheet metal.
You can use a DA and 80 grit paper. It'll give the kid something to start on! Lots of effort!
The other way is to use aircraft stripper. Messy, noxious and to need to worry about it seeping into seams.

I stripped most of my van(original paint and a layer of house paint) with a wide razer blade. I took it alway to the red qxide primer this way then DA the rest to metal. I learned this from a buddy that strips vettes this way Bob

Re: farther & son project 66 no-door
I used paint stripper and sand blasting and everything else!
If you are going to be working with multiple layers of paint the stripper works pretty good, use it on the flat panels or anywhere you wont get a seep like Rod mentioned (not on drip rails!). I used sand on spots that I didn't have to worry about warping like around the head lights and some of the harder to sand body lines up by the roof and grill. after all that it was DA and a bunch of scotchbrite pads on a die grinder. If you use sand on the inside, you will be blowing that out for ever from behind the ribs and roof rails. Just keep that in mind before you start spraying paint on the inside,, spend some time getting it out if you use it.

Re: farther & son project 66 no-door
You mentioned a floor shifter, is it auto or manual? I put a 5 speed trans in mine and made the shifter and all linkage. Story and pics are on this site some where. Either how its done or between the seats I think.

Father & son project 66 no-door
LOOKS like a nice father and son project the hardest part is getting started it will be a project your son will never forget and one to be proud of. (Enjoy the build)... ...PS I found HURST makes a shifter that has a rear cable entry from summit racing. B&M also makes one but they are about a $125.00 more I will put it on my dog house lid and run the cable straight back..........JOE.........
