I was going to put the frontend on today but ran into a snag. The van came desert fresh with home made shakels, so I have to wonder what else is wrong.
For starters I replaced the bushings in the frame and there seems to be some play because the hole in the bushing is bigger than the bolt. Is there something missing? A spacer like the one that goes threw the bushings on the leafsprings? Also the holes on the new shakels are the same size and the bolts that hold the shak to the leaf are smaller than the bolts that hold the shak to the frame.
Need some help and I'm hoping Donovan will step up with some pics to clear this up. Thanks to any and all for help.~ GK.

Don will probably have the pics. The bushings are designed for 9/16. Sounds like they did a quickie to hold it together. Stock would have been a shouldered bolt with the 9/16 for the bushing and drops a size or 2 for the shackle on one side.

IF,,,,,,,,someone made new shackles,,,,they might of used 1/2" bolts instead of the 9/16 factory bolts with the square shoulders that fit into the 4 HB 930 bushings that go on each shackle,,,,,a fast test would be to try the nut from the front bolt it is 1/2",,,,,it should be too small to fit the shackle bolt,,,,,you can get 9/16 bolts and drill the hole out on the fake shackles to make things right,,,,,does this sound like what you have?

The I got don't have the square hole in them so I think I'm going to drill The hole out to the right size and colar the inside of the bushing. So the onlything I need now is the colar with no one in town seems to have. I'll try the sring shop a few towns away.
Donivan do you just have pics of verything about these vans or do you just go and rip your van apart every time someone has a question??? Thanks ~ GK.

I probably got 10,000 pictures now from people asking questions,,,,however,,,, sometimes it is faster to take my van apart and take a picture I need. Now if you are talking about a sleeve,,,,,you can't use one with the 4 stock bushings on a shackle,,,,,the hole in them is 9/16",,,,those factory bolts with the square are also 9/16" so they fit tight,,,,,so,,,,if you keep the 4 bushings,,you just need 9/16" bolts on both ends of the shackle and probably the holes will need to be drilled out bigger for the bigger bolts to fit,,,,,if you are using sleeves,,,,,you need bushings with bigger holes in them since sleeves are 3/4" and do come with 1/2 or 9/16 holes in them.....

As you can see by Don's picks, the shouldered bolts also make a stop, so you can not over tighten the bushings. If you go the route of using 9/16 bolts you will need to use lock nuts and make a point of not squishing the bushings into oblivion. They are also quite bulky looking. And somewhat pricey for what they are.

Put the word out , someone might have what you need here in a stash of parts. I might have a couple of the shackle plates but the bolts I have would be to short.

Making the holes square takes some work if you use the real bolts on a fake shackle,,,,,and Digz,,,,,I am going to help you,,,,if you want to make those shackle bolts look prettier,,,,get rid of the big nuts and drill a cotter pin hole and put one of these nuts on it......

The kit is for 67 g-van I think, Thats what I asked for.
Its from Dayton Parts LLC (Batco) in PA
    Part # 330-103 Shackle kit cs403/386
The gromets fit into the frame easy/snug and the sleeves went in snug. The bolt is 7/16 ,there is some play in the sleeve/bolt(32nd inch) not to happy about that buy its all I got. I'll keep an eye on it and get a plastic jesus for the dash. Hopes this helps ~ GK.

How long are those sleeves,,,,,they should be 1/2" wider than the springs,,,,,they look too short to fit flush with those bushings,,,,do you have the stock 3" wide springs or the 2 1/2" aftermarket ones that need fatter bushings to fit the frame?

Everything looks right,,,,,,If you dont like the way the bolt fits in that sleeve,,,,try a 1/2" bolt in it and enlarge the shackle holes to make the 1/2" bolts fit,,,,,,

I tried the 1/2 it wouldn't fit. I probably could have pounded one in but that would have opened the sleeve a little and I like that idea even less then the way it is now. So we'll see how this works out this summer.
