SV, Good One! My Grandson calls me and introduces me as Paw. I love it cause it sends me back to the simpler times of Mark McCain and Opie Taylor.

Hey, Don, did those stage coaches have grease fittings on them?

Life was simple, the good guys won,,,,and Lucas took care of business,,,,,I think those wagons needed to have their wheels taken off and grease stuffed in them or they would be falling off along the road.....

Well, after a very very long delay...I'm ready to get back on the horse and tinker with the Glacier. First I have to figure out where did all the oil go??? I think there is a mouse in my engine that consumed it all...more to come.

Welcome back Scott! I was beginning to wonder if you had caught the Ultimate Wave and just riding it all the way to Maui! Find the oil leak...Don't want a repeat of the motor rebuild!

Just got done reading the entire thread and you guys have done a great job on that van and inspiring me to get re-started on mine. A couple of the later replies in the thread mentioned Lucas and getting the smoke back into the wires and reminded me of this (recently posted on vcvc):

Scott says since he checked the dipstick on his van and there was no oil on it, that just took the wind right out of his sails,,,,,,,,well I sure aint afraid of a little wind,,,,,so let me go see what he is up to.........

,,,,,and now,,,,, the rest of the story,,,,,,Scott says the engine is out of oil,,,,,he puts 5 more quarts in it and says he still has the problem,,,,,but,,,,,the problem is with that chrome dipstick that makes it REALLY hard to see the clear oil on it,,,,,,so we drain 10 quarts out of the crankcase,,,,,,and then there was the- put the drain plug back in without dropping it in the pan of oil after each 3 quarts we drain out,,,,so we changed out the break in oil and filter and things are back to normal,,,,,,next we need to put a Hamburger fan in it......

Maybe put a chrome handle on the black dipstick so the oil level is easier to see?? Scott's gonna really like that hamburger fan on those hot sunny days out there! Do we get to see pics of the installation? PLEASE Wink

Really?!?! That makes me feel better! Thanks! Very Happy

I still can't believe the way it went down, because I even felt the dipstick and it was bone-dry. Ce la Vie...I say, the good thing is that I knew something was screwy when I added 4.5 Quarts and still no reading so I decided NOT to start it until I figured it out! That would have been a blow out!

We've all done similar things before...It gives you something to laugh about later on when telling stories! Guess what Scott, your human...At least you had the good sense to hold off on starting it until you figured it out. Sensei Don is watching out for you and everyone else for that matter and there are many more like him on this site who love to lend a hand and help get things figured out. That's what makes this site Great Very Happy

The whole dipstick is chrome,,,,some kind of an aftermarket type,,,,lets see if Scott can grind off the chrome so the oil shows up better,,,,,,at least this was better than him driving it without oil,,,,,,Scott just was not taking any chances,,,,,,he did not want to blow up 2 engines,,,,,,so he did good.......

Custom! So you've got it mounted to the belly pan? No more percolating carb? Nice addition guys. I think Scottie made a nice choice on the seats. The driver's seat looks really nice in there! 3-Point seat belts next?

It is mounted on the bellypan with a quick disconnect for the wiring,,,,,on these vans if you aint movin, you aint coolin, so the fan keeps the coolant and doghouse temperature down and gets rid of the fumes,,,,,,,it is mandatory that a Vintage van has one,,,,,we got a timer to install once Scott gets his dash sorted out,,,,,he wants to install gauges in his steering column support.......

Finally had some fun driving the van yesterday. I took it down to Lake Murray and went for a run...

Then it was off to Trader Joes...check out that precious cargo! And...they only fell over once on the way home.
