Don, nice to see you check in with Scotty. Not much time for surfing when there's a little one around.

Scott, I'm really liking that Black Plate you scored. Did you have that Vintage-Vans plate made special or are those available on this site???

Funny how you guys are working on a hamburger fan and I had to scrape the frost off of my windshield this morning...well, maybe not so funny! Sad

That's an awesome picture! Don't tell me Don was surfing in front of you so he could snap an action photo? LOL! Looks like you've embraced the laid back west coast lifestyle! Hope all is well with the family!

Ready to take it to the next level in 2016! Donivan and I went to Home Depot and picked up some siding and other supplies. He took the siding to his house and was nice enough to cut it into strips for me to lay within the corrugated bed of the van. This was the first step to attempt to make it more "flat" so it would be easier on the ole' knees to crawl around back there.

    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 20160110

Once I got those all laid out, I went to Dixieline to get some 4mm visqueen to make a non-permeable barrier to go between the slats and the new carpeting that I will be laying soon, so in the event there is a spill or something, the slats will not get wet/moldy. Here's what I found, but according to Don, "anything thicker than saran wrap will do".

    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 20160111

Next I measured the length and width of the entire area I wanted to cover and cut a big 128" x 67" (*results may vary) rectangle and placed it inside the van with the back edge lined up to the edge of where I wanted it to land. Then I laid it all out and folded it right before the doghouse and cut out around the the wheel wells. Finally, I carefully cut out the doghouse outline and the strips that run under the seats. Here is the result...not the prettiest, but good enough for government work.

Nice work! Just noticing your thread is 71 pages! I've got some catching up to do. I have to do the inside of my van here before too long, so I'll be keeping an eye on what you and others are doing.

Next time I'm out in Encinitas (won't be anytime soon I'm afraid) I'll contact you guys down in S.D. and maybe stop by?

The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 Empty Interiot Carpet

    Post by the_surfing_guy Mon Feb 22, 2016 7:48 pm

Went over to Vanagain's house, my new neighbor, and we got busy installing some shag in the rig. Since, it was really heavy, we had to reinforce the ceiling panel (Rich fabricated brackets right on the spot)...

    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 Img_0110

Then we measured the length and width of the area to cover and cut a strip to fit. Again, since the weight was such a factor we cut that strip into smaller panels, so it would be more manageable to hang. Then we used screws and staples to hold the leading edge....

    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 Img_0111

Then we rolled out some Contact Cement on the wood and the backside of the carpet, let it dry until just tacky and stuck it from the front center to rear and then spread it out.

Sorry for the crooked photo Rich!
    The Surfing Guy's 65 - Page 43 20160210

Finally, we stapled everything else into place. Took us quite a while to do one panel, but the next will go quicker now that we have the system down...
