Last weekend I installed a replacement signal cam so I wouldn't have to manually stop the blinker after every turn. Below you can see the old (black) cam, and the new (white) cam. The new cam has lobes where the old one didn't. But, they still don't come out far enough to hit the canceling cam when I turn the wheel. I started to build up the lobes one the canceling cam, but it starting hitting in places it wasn't supposed to.

I guess I should ask, did the blinkers ever shut themselves off on these vans?

The canceling cam on mine has marks on it like it was used at one time.

I know the aftermarket Shee-mar cam was made for a bunch of different vehicles, so the lobes on that part may not be for our vans. I'm pretty certain that I have the right canceling cam because I have a spare steering column that matches it.

I don't know about the G or E's but the '67 A's were self canceling.

They all have cams, mounted to the underside of the steering wheel, that hit those cancelling springs on a 2nd Gen,,,,,,1st Gens are all plastic,,,,,do you have the cancelling springs to put on that old or new plate?

    That's what I'm missing..

I went back out to my storage van and checked the spare column. Call it luck, it's got two springs on it.

Hopefully next weekend I can just pop those springs in and be done with it.

Thanks for the info, and reference picture.

    That was simple, thanks..

    Blinker working right now..

Somewhere along the line the horn button quit. I'll save that for later. Since I can pull up on the blinker arm to make the horn honk it's not a big deal.

,,,,,ignoring problems ain't going to make them go away Scott,,,,,,there is a wire that connects to the bearing retainer on the turn signal switch,,,then the horn brush connects the retainer through the steering wheel to the horn button,,,,maybe you have the wrong cancelling cam on the bottom of the steering wheel or the collar not on correctly and the brush can't reach the retainer,,,,,pull the horn button off and take the brush out,,,,,stick a grounded screwdriver or nail in the hole,,,see if the horn works and you can tell if the problem is above or below the steering wheel,,,,

It worked before I took it apart today. I'm going to fix it in the morning.

    Thanks for the info though..

Because I've had the steering wheel off and on alot to line things up and etc. I never bothered to replace the cam. Have gotten used to just using the blinkers and cancelling them myself. Don't miss the self cancelling really at all. Will leave the parts in the box for the next owner guy ;-)
