When I pulled my /6 out of the '67 it did not have a crank bolt in the damper. The pic in my parts book doesn't show one either, and I can't find a torque spec for one in my service book. The service book shows an installer being used and does not mention the bolt in the removal or installation.

Must be the dodge bros figured since there isn't a pulley to bolt on, then why put a bolt in the damper.

Key way and friction fit I guess? It goes on a lot tighter than any of the SBC I have worked on. It also came off very hard, I stood the engine on end and soaked it with Gibbs and PB blaster for a week. I was worried that I was going to mess it up and have to find another one. I am thinking of adding a bolt and washer just to be safe.

I figured after looking in the books it wasn't supposed to have one, but better to ask than assume. Thanks guys.

They are a press fit, but most balancers are and still have a bolt. But yes most /6's do not have a bolt. Now here's an interesting twist though. I replaced the 170 in my van with a 225. The 225 is an industrial engine with a SPLINED crank and SPLINED balancer. It is not a press fit so I had to put a bolt in. How's that for weird?
