I just spent about an hour trying to find out how to install a new Pulley/damper on my newly rebuilt 250 I6. All the YouTube stuff covers dampers with the end of the crankshaft threaded so all you have to do is pull the damper back on with a bolt I HAVE NO THREADS IN THE END OF MY CRANKSHAFT so please someone tell me how to put the new damper/pulley back on.

,,,,it dont take too much,,,,,,,like hold a metal plate or big washer over the end so you dont damage the keyway,,,,,,

Re: Pulley/damper
If you heat the damper first,(harmonic balancer) like a toaster oven, it goes on easy.

Re: Pulley/damper
The hammer shown in pix above has leather ends- no metal strining force!! I have several of these. Today - use a heavy compothane hammer - Harbor freight has them. The only way!! lube the crank & pulley with grease or a lube-oil is still good to =lightly!!

Re: Pulley/damper
Thank you all. While working on aircraft for the National Guard I swore I would never resort to hitting anything with a hammer. I'm going to build a huge "C" clamp to press it on. Pics shortely.

Re: Pulley/damper
That "tool " keeps it from driving the center through the outer part of the pulley.

Re: Pulley/damper
it just looks tougher than it really is,,,just tap it on until it gets started on the keyway, then go for it,,,,I done lots of them,,,,,and thats the only way I know how,,,,,if you cook it in the oven too much,,,it could wreck the timing cover seal that it goes through,,,,,

Re: Pulley/damper
I would think bringing it to a boil in some water would heat it up enough and keep it safe. Toss in a couple eggs for a snack later maybe.
