I think I have a Blown or leaking head gasket, I noticed some water under the van and layed down under to check it out and saw some drips and steam coming outta the overflow hose, I also noticed up at the head where it meets the block I saw something that looked like a water bubble and pop, like maybe steam bubble ing out there? I have never really seen to many blown head gasket indications before on anything so not sure what to look for, has no excessive smoke, I havnt looked at the dipstick yet but will in a few moments, (for water and oil mix) kinda bummed, hoping engine is not ruined, its not running terribly bad but not perfect either, I have never pulled the head off of one of these and not even sure where to begin....I guess pull carb/ intake/manifold off, pull valve cover..then ? maybe this is all mentioned here somewhere else ?

If you have a pressure tester, you could pump up the radiator and see if it holds pressure and if there are leaks anywhere,,,,,If you want to pull the head, the basic way is undo the fuel line, temp sender, plug wires, upper hose, choke cable, carb linkage, and exhaust pipe,,,,,pull the valve cover and undo the head bolts,,,,,,then the whole thing coves off,,,,,or take it off piece by piece,,,,,,

If you leave it all in one piece ,you might want a buddy handy to give ya a hand lifting it or use a shop crane.

It sure is easier to lift off the more pieces you take off,,,,,the pushrods will be still sticking in the block if you don't 1st loosen each rocker arm and pull out each of them before you pull the head,,,,,,,,otherwise you will need to loosen the rocker arms and turn them a little to slip the pushrods back down through the head and adjust them after the head is back on,,,,,,

The oil just looks burnt black oil, took off the valve cover...found what looks like the tip of a pushrod tube in a headbolt recess in the head next to the bolt.

Water or coolant turns the engine oil into kinda like a chocolate milk shake,,,,,it's not deadly unless you ran that engine a long time,,,,,it would probably clean out if you drained it out and did a couple of oil changes with some cheap oil. Loosen the rocker arms and pull up each pushrod and check them for damage,,,you really need to take all the rockers off and inspect them and the valve stem tips to see if they are all chewed up,,,,,,
