    Morning all,
I found a guy not too far from me that has a 1970 Sweptline Pickup with a LA 318 and a 3-speed manual trans (column shift). I just happen to be looking for both of these parts and he's going to make a fair deal on them.

What I haven't been able to find out is what kind of transmission it actually is. My /65 A has an A-745 manual in it, I think that's the same trans that's in this '70 Sweptline but I haven't been able to find any details at Allpar etc.

Anyone know off hand if they used the 745 in ' 70 Sweptline pickups?

They used the A-745 in '68.

I checked it before but its not very conclusive:
    1970 Model Year:

Transmissions for 1970 for (both standard and automatic model types) saw significant upgrades. A new 3-speed, fully synchronized manual transmission was made standard on all half and 3/4 ton pick-ups with the 383 V8. This transmission was also made standard on the D200 and W200 crew-cabs with the six-cyl. engines. The new transmissions provided more versatility for rugged terrain or heavy loads. In the engine line-up Dodge intoduced a new 198 ci six-cly. motor. This engine became standard offering and the 225 six & 318 V8 became optional.

I've been looking through my books a parts manuals but the newest I found was '69 for 745 in the sweptlines. That is only because I don't have a manual that covers a '70 truck. Good luck though... Smile

So long as it's not a big heavy duty trans with the PTO plate on the side, it should swap out.
Keep in mind that the driveshaft end may be different.

Thanks for the input everyone, I just found a couple of pretty good sites that have trans/engine related data. Take a look here and here.

Yep, and it answers a few other questions I've been pondering in regards to my engine swap as well. The first site lists clutch sizes for engine/trans combo's which comes in handy.

It looks like the 9.5" clutch was used with the A745/273+318cid combos which is good to know, that means my existing trans/bell housing/clutch will bolt right up to a 60's/70's LA 318.

One less thing I have to worry about Smile
