Stolen Econoline Tailgate. Empty Stolen Econoline Tailgate.

Post by econopoor Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:24 pm

One of our Yahoo group members got his tailgate stolen in the Portland area. If everybody will keep an eye out for this one maybe we can catch this thief. It's painted dark blue with white letters but it will probably get some fresh paint to hide it's trail.

    Yahoo stolen tailgate link.

    Thanks

Hey Bill, great idea but when something gets lifted around my way we put a " wanted" ad on craigslist. Sometimes the crooks are stupid enough to answer. My buddies older generator got stolen , with no sign of it showing up. About a month later we ran a ad looking for parts for his style of generator, about a week later the phone rang. The kid says" I'll deliver it if you are interested, sure enough the kid pulls up with my buddies generator. My buddy calls the cops and the kid gets busted!!!!!! I'm thinking when the kid pulls in the driveway "heres your sign" Bob

Around 10 years ago i had a 1979 monte carlo stole out of my back yard. I never heard a word back from the detectives. A few years after that i got robbed again and theives took a set of factory gold honey comb wheels for my 1979 bandit trans am and a set of aluminum ramps. Never a word back on them. I got broke into a few years ago and thieves stole about a couple of thousand dollars worth it tools Sbc parts tv VCR micro oven lawnmower flow master mufflers and much more. I have never heard a thing back from the police. A few months ago the power pole at one of my rental property's fell and after I called the power co to come out to cut the power thrives the next night stole my wire meter base and disconnect box. Haven't heard nothing on that case either. I would say that if the tailgate was on his truck the person that took it knew that it was virtually impossible to find one and knew someone that needed one. If that's the case he had better watch out cause they will probaly be back! Now if it was off of his truck he might should call all of the scrap yards around in his area cause there might be a good chance that someone hooked it to scrap it. Its so bad that you work all of your life to get what you got and then a theif comes along and steals it! I hope that they get caught!!!!

If he has insurance he will definitely get screwEd by his insurance company on it for sure! How would you price a part that is no longer available even aftermarket? The insurance company will go by blue book value for sure he's screwed!

True but after the deductible it will be nothing and his insurance will probaly cancel on him. It's just a lose lose situation for him. I feel for him cause I have fell in a rose bush quite a few few times and in the words of ronnie van zant I have always came out smelling like S##<

More than likly since he had it parked out in the street he probaly only had no fault and uninsured motorist coverage. If he did have full coverage the deductible will be $250 and the insurance co would go by the blue book value which would be no where near the real value of the vehicle. They would probaly estimate the tailgate at $100 or so. So he will wind up getting nothing. I would advise all vintage car, truck & van owners to get their vintage collector vehicles insured thru a vintage insurance co like haggertys. You can insure your vehicle for a whole year for about what a 6 month policy will cost thru a casualty insurance co. You can buy a policy for how much you think that it would cost to replace your vehicle due to a loss. Don't get out and get hit in a $20,000 vehicle like I did and get $4,400 for a total loss!

I was in law enforcement for 25 years amazing what people will steal and hang in their garage, basement or bedroom, one night a caught a church youth group in the church van trying to load a fire hydrant into the back, several other times junior had a stop sign hanging on his bedroom wall on the back it said property of ------- county georgia, amazing how they cry on the ride to jail. Hopefully the tailgate will be recovered but wouldn't hold my breath, hate thiefs with sticky fingers and of course arab countries have a way to stop thiefs - Wack the fingers off.

    Bigeye bob,
I totally agree with you sir it is totaly amazing what people will steal! I have been robbed about 6 times in the last 15 years. They have stole everything from t-shirts to automobiles from me. I have never recovered nothing that has been stolen from me either. I think that the state of Ga is way to lenient on people that does get caught stealing to. I think that if the USA went to the whack the fingers off it would stop a lot of the thieves everywhere but not all of them. The meth addicts wouldn't even consider the consequence's all they are thinking about is getting their next fix at what ever it takes them to get it.
