Re: Trailer hitches
I used part of Donivan's idea and used 2: square stock, slid it into the frame. Then welded 3" channel to it and then bolted a spare Jeep bumper I had with a 2" receiver built into it. Added rear air shocks life is good!

Re: Trailer hitches
i plan on doing one similar to donavans but right now, i have a hitch i bought for 20.00 and cut ends off, welded on tabs and welded tabs to bumper brackets. it was last minute decesion to drag camper to nats. and took longer to go get hitch than to install. i am not pleased with how it sticks out but need to drop tank to weld the way i want. click on pic to see entire pic

Re: Trailer hitches
I'm thinkin of having the hitch come through my bumper. Problem being I'd have to cut out all the roll pan behind the bumper between the bumper brackets. My van is lowered so I don't know if i want to have the hitch under the bumper. Thanks for the pics guys.

Re: Trailer hitches
Sturdy looking hitches. I need a light duty thing, probably just bumper mounted. However, I need a new Right Rear Bumper mount-the C shaped piece that connects the bumper to the frame. Anybody have a spare floating around (please PM me so I don't steal this thread). Thanks much! Am using later model bumpers on mine as the originals are too light for parking by ear or a bumper mount trailer hitch. Any of you guys weld a bar to your bumper to make it sturdier? I was thinking of a square bar welded to the bumper, drilled to bolt into original brackets then a bolt on trailer hitch mounted thru the bumper and the welded on bar.
Boss illustrations guys, thanks much and happy motoring!

hitch picture
I'll take a close up when I get a chance but I leave tommorow to head north to visit family for xmas. Will do and up load when I get back but just to give you an Idea of what it looks like. The receiver is tight against bottom center rear chrome bumper. I put a small piece of rubber between the bumper and receiver before install to stop rust from metal to metal contact. It is so tight you can't pull the rubber back out without loosening the hitch. Painted black without the receiver hitch mount installed most people don't even notice it there without bringing it to their attention. I told the facbricator I wanted to make sure I could take out my gas tank without removing the hitch. He said no problem and made it wide enough to bolt to the outsides of the frame on both sides, you can't see anything hanging down under the van, he made a sold steel cross bar connecting both sides that is behind the bumper with a flat steel lip that extends across from under the cross bar wide enough to go from back bottom edge of the cross bar to the back edge of the gas tank then welded both mounting brackets onto the ends of the plate and up into the pockets on the ouside of frame then installed 2 stanless steel, I believe 5/8's bolts on both ends thru the frame with sleeves welded into the holes drilled thru the frame. Just like the rear top shock tower mounts.

Re: Trailer hitches
I have a 68 108, used a hitch off of a 2003 dodge
caravan, was almost made for the earlys. bolts to the
bottom of the rear frame rails with 4 bolts. fits just under the bumper and flush with the bumper, no shin banggin
I made plates the went inside the frame rails from the rear
with the bumper off, bolted the hitch on and then the bumper. I have the bumper off at the chrome shop so I can`t
get a pic, but was very easy to install.
