ford 240/300 cylinder head question Empty ford 240/300 cylinder head question

Post by Guest Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:08 pm

hi, i'm getting ready to rebuild a 67-68 240 motor i for my econoline and the core i have has the holes in the head for air pump set-up. obviously i don't want to run the air pump but the head still has the holes in it.

my question is should i plug the holes or find a another head? has anyone had luck plugging up the heads on one of these... and if so what type of plugs did you use?

if i should replace the head i think finding a 240 head may be tougher than finding a 300 head. can i use a 300 head in place of the 240 without making any modifications?

any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks

They make plugs for them, I have two 300 heads here with them installed. They were in the heads when I got them and not sure where to find them.

earlier 302 heads have same problem as you are experiencing. The shop that rebuilds heads will have them in stock as will NAPA!!

My 1968 289 had threaded holes for the air pump. They were standard pipe tread, so I got plugs from the hardware store.

Check to see if your holes are internally threaded.
