This for M1 and panelmanrd mostly. I was wondering how far you had to move the Xmember forward to allow the 1988 G tank to fit ? I'm planning on that change and want to make sure I leave enough room when I lay out my RA Xmember. Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Digz

This will be a 1988 22 gal tank so I can take advantage of the electric pump stuff. I think they are 22" long. Just try to make sure I leave myself plenty of room.

hey digz, I think g-man is right, i will get a
measurement for you tomorrow, there are some good
photos of the mount modification that i made to
Tanya`s early that are in the gallery named Tanya`s
early. hers is a 64 chevy with the 22 or 25 gallon
88 chevy van tank, I used that year because of the
fuel injection pump inside, if using a carb just use
    the 86 and earlier tank.

one other think to mention here is the fact that the
vin number is stamped in that crossmember that you will
need to move, so be sure and re-use that cross member.
Pretty sure that is the only other place that the vin is
stamped on the frame, besides the vin plate.

was buggin me so I just went down and measured how far
forward I moved her cross member, 6.5 inches. if you can
get some one to move the filler neck foreward on the gas
tank you will not have to move it that far. If it is
a new tank, should not be a problem, I used a used tank
M1dadio used a new one and had his filler moved.
this tank works the best with the least amount of mods
to make work. the sender for this tank is a 0-90 ohm
unit. I welded a 0-30 ohm sender on the new pump unit.

Thanks a bunch RD !! Right now I'm planning on using something like that Holley EZ EFI set up and going with all different guages. Im thinking the In-tank pump and pick up would work well for that? Do you think I could get away with just moving the filler neck forward 3" I could cut that 6.5" in half okay? Either way ,you gave the info I need to get the layout positioned.
    Thanks again . Joe

Here is a good reference. It was behind the shock bolt, you can see the old spot welds and now its abouty the same distance ahead of the shock bolt GotAVan made the custom length straps for it I had to use blocks of hard wood formed to shape and held to the sheet metal with screws from the top and back . These blocks are to hold the tank snug and it has to be a litle lower so the anti surge air dome and sender clear the floor. With that tank you won't get the right hand turn fuel surge out the gas cap thing because of that air dome in the top center.

    Front gas tank Xmember Christ15
I had to reposition the filler neck but exclude the surge hose because its built into the sender. The sender is a 90 ohm so you need a guage for that. I think all GM after 67 are 90 ohm.

The tank does hand a little lower and I moved it to the extreem right to make it easier to deal wqith the hoses.

I don't remember of mines a 22 gal or not. In 88 you just use a different sender when going carb or FI the tank is the same

    I just looked it up

I used the GM8C 22 gal tank, the other for that year is the GM26C 33 gallon tank.

    The FI sender is FG17B

Its all made by Spectrum Premium. they make all the aftermarket tanks senders rads heater cores and so on.

That's some impressive work on your tank swap. I ended up cleaning out my old gunky one and to expand it from being half crushed from PO's backing over things I filled it with water sealed the ends and hand pumped it up with air. About 20lbs of pressure really filled it out. Expanded it beyond what it looked like from factory pics as I thought it would shrink back after blowing it up. It didn't. So now I think it holds a couple of gallons more than factory and will measure it next time I run out of gas. Could not find any creases or cracks or split seams so I etched it out and treated it with gas tank sealer and because it takes forever for the stuff to solidify I just left in in the sun and turned it to lots of different angles most every day for about 2 months. I'm pretty sure the new gunk got everywhere. Will follow-up this post if and when it fails.

Thanks for posting such nice work, really inspiring.

I know this is an older thread but interested in how this turned out Digz.

This looks like the tank being talked about?

    22 Gallon Tank

Did you install this one? How did it work? You used FI or Carb?

EDIT: This has a return for using FI? Is that built into the pump/sender or something?

I'm going this route with my 64 I bought a new tank on ebay for $82 shipped and a fuel injection sending unit (no pump included) for $60. I have to run a 60psi pump so this worked out perfect. Bob

Matt tank #2 really nice piece even comes with nice silver paint. Even if you don't use fuel injection , you can put a no fuel injection sending unit in it. The sending unit I listed is a steal, they are usually over $100, remeber ir doesn't come with the pump that's extra Bob
