Can anyone post up a pic of the bolt heads for the lower attachment points of the grill piece. The upper part mounts into holes and is bolted from the backside but the bottom area is flush mounted, I'm assuming the bolt heads are some kind of flush mount, want to see what they look like as i try and find something similar. Thanks

Re: grill mounting bolts
They are pressed in flush mount. They run up into the bottom of the nose and a nut on top.

Re: grill mounting bolts
They arent flush mount. They are pretty much just a typical bolt with a small flange on it.

Re: grill mounting bolts
They are the same bolt/washer that are used on the door hinges.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Your all wrong...they are left hand metric, and the only way you can get to them is through the gas tank. ...actually I haven't got a clue...I haven't got that far yet.

Re: grill mounting bolts
ACTUALLY,,, I think you're on the right track. LOL !! (in a joking way)
The bottom bolts go into a pressed in(swedged) nut that always spins and you can't take the bolts out unless you can get behind the panel pc to hold them, of which you can't do. Its hollow and no entry point for those swedged in nuts. The upper bolts on the grill are actually studs that go up through the floor board and then nuts on top of those studs inside the truck. Inside the truck, there are front panel holders and electrical wire loom holders that attach to those same studs.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Found a picture of a chrome one, but it shows the upper studs that go into the cab, and the lower hole for the bolts to go into the blind nuts inside the lower valance. If you have the bolts out, I would surely chase them with a tap with the thread sizes Fred posted before hand. Perhaps even "tack" weld the sides in and install the bolts with anti-seize. Its not uncommon to have to cut the head off of the bolt just to get the grill off.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Ya I kind of thought it would be like that. After removing the belly pan I noticed no nuts under there for the grill bottom. I did however find the the top bolts that protrude up through the floor and sprayed them up good with some lube and broke them all free. Sooooo....how does one get those bottom ones out if the nuts turn? other then grinding the heads off and possibly re-drilling. A close up pic of those nuts would be nice if someone has one available please.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Could try drilling a small hole below them while they are tight and see if you can put a dob of spot weld on them.

Re: grill mounting bolts
That's what I meant by "tack" welding them in place. But, to do that the grill needs to be off. You can only access it with the grill off. Many a time I have cut the heads of the bolt off, same as the tail gate hinges.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Like Vic says, cut the bolt head off. Then tack weld the nutplate. Shoot it with some PB blaster and you can probably get the bolt out the rest of the way with vice grips. You could also weld a longer bolt to the part left after cutting it off and use a socket to remove it. I did that once on a manifold bolt. Worse case scenario, replace it with a nut that you weld in place of the nutplate.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Grinding and tack welding sounds like the plan for next spring. That's when I will tackle that grill. I checked one bolt today and yup it turns....Dang.

grill
So got looking at the lower grill attachment points on my truck, I have no backing nuts, just holes! So my solution, I chased the upper pressed on bolts really well and am using nylon lock nuts and lock washers on them and for the lower I'm using automotive double sided tape, the heavy duty used on bumper trim molding, pretty heavy duty stuff. Should hold really well and will make the for easy removal.
Long term I'll probably tack weld in a washer bolt (bolt with washer attached) into the lower attachment holes since I can find no one who sells the proper press in bolt/anchor

Re: grill mounting bolts
This was a problem with these panel nuts, I did what Vic did on all my
econos.Spot weld around the nut and retap the threads and put some lube
in around the threads for mounting the bolts. You might have to remove the grill in the future and wont have a problem.

Re: grill mounting bolts
Thanks for that pic. I think this will be an easy fix once the grill is out.
