Post by justcruzin Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:59 pm

Hey everyone. I'm a newbie here. Found the site by searching Google for 68 Chevy Sportvan. We, hubby and I just got a new to us 68 Chevy Sportsvan Deluxe 108. It needs a lot of work, but I think it has potential. We picked it up for a 200 bucks, but have to give the motor back to the guy. By the looks of the motor, it's not that big of a loss. LOL We already have a couple spare Chevy motors, so it is not big deal about losing the one that is in it.

I hope to update this thread as we make progress on the van. Right now I only have one pic. I hope to get some more once we bring it home. It is currently at my hubby's work.

Check out that front guard! LOL

Right now I plan on keeping the guard. LOL I don't know why, but it kind of grew on me when we first saw the van. I will try to get more pics soon.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will take many pics as I go along. Very Happy Looks like I need to shrink them a bit for this site. LOL The pic above is actually a pic of the whole front of the van, not just half of it! Very Happy

Ok, I went to the yard to day and took some more pics. I uploaded them to photobucket in a smaller format, so hopefully they will show up here ok!

Just thought this was a neat photo.

Well, when I did a preview, the pics were fine. Then I hit the send button and the final product is still cut photos. I did 800x600. Next time I will try to upload them 640x? to see if they will fit better.

looks like a fun project. what went through the windshield? that might explain why somebody needed the zombie shielding barrier across the front. ouch.

I don't know what went through the windshield. I know it sat at some guy's house for a long time, but not sure the full story. Hubby is supposed to see the guy tomorrow, so I will ask him to ask the guy.

That guard is something else isn't it? LOL

The rims are 5 lug. These are the current rims on it. I think they are called Shelby rims. At least that is what the 2 hubcaps say on the other side.

New to Me Chevy Van IMG_2190

The boss wants them for scrap, but I told hubby I would like to try to keep them. He will convince the boss to let them stay with the van.

I found out a bit of history on the van. The story on the grille is that the PO ran off into a ditch once and decided that the front bumper wasn't good enough, so he and a friend fabricated the current grille.

The story on the windshield is kind of a funny one. The PO had a cat and there was an big old tom cat that kept on coming over and beating up his cat. One day he saw his poor cat limping back toward him. He then saw the tom cat which was in front of the van. The van was about 15 feet from where the PO was standing. He picked up a brick to throw at the tom cat and put a bit to much umph into it. Needless to say, the tom cat just turned his nose up to the guy and walked away. The windshield didn't fair as well. LOL

I have officially named the van Shaggy. I know it is a common name, but I have personalized plates that say SHAG E. If we can't keep the original blue plates, I am going to transfer the Shag e plates to the van. Even if we do keep the blue ones, I like the name. Reminds me of Shaggy of the Mystery Machine. Very Happy
